BRASSO
And knew a few "legendary stories" when the corps was referred to as "Band ####" by some locals. "Bad ### boys from the bad ### city". s/ fan from my first year.... They'd pull into the stadium parking lot, loud and brash. And when they hit the field, it got LOUDER still.. The ground and stadium bleachers would literally shake with the Blatttisimo..... haha! Were they the best brass musicians ? No or course not. Not even close. they had 2 forms of playing: 1) loud.... 2) LOUDER STILL ( haha!) But were they the hip and cool, big bad boys from the City ?..... that knew how to entertain a crowd ? yes!....... who else could play such a skit that sounded like what you'd hear in a city traffic jam at rush hour with the noise, honking of car horns, cop whistles, etc ...... and have it sound that realistic through the creative use of brass and percussion and a whistle ? Nobody needed an explanation about " the theme "..... and certainly no judges needed the theme and music to have to be explained to them before the season began. Everbody " got it ", whether you had 3 degrees or were 3 degrees to the wind. Edited March 8, 2010 by BRASSO
euponitone
You know you're a serious fan when the fact that half the people in this thread seem to think "serious fan = having seen 100 shows in the 80's or earlier", doesnt surprise you at all.... CitBos
Blue Devils marched more in 1988 than they did in 2010. So, you've seen their show for this year already, drill and all? Now that's a serious fan.
The Other Mike
You are being talked down to by a condescending wind bag who thinks their opinion is the alpha and omega of the activity and all other opinions, arguments, and suggestions are valid ONLY if they conform to them. Sometimes they'll say stuff like, "I'm OK with change" as long as that change falls into a carefully constructed parameter that they believe in. SO why not just mention me by name next time ? flugelswerebugels
or at least they would have, had there been any actual marching in their show. And they did it without chairs, too!
euponitone
SO why not just mention me by name next time ? We could, but then we'd have to mention all the other people as well, or else they would get jealous of you

Everbody " got it ", whether you had 3 degrees or were 3 degrees to the wind. Didn't have to know their reputation either, you could just tell the "Get the #### out of the way, here we come attitude". Well, did hear the "Get the #### outta the way" one night after the Carlisle show. Honor Guard Sgt threatened to take out a car coming towards the corps. Back On-topic: When a corps does a bit from their past, you know it what it is, why it is done and when it was done. And extra credit if you know this and you weren't around when it was first played. You see someone in a corps shirt or from another corps and you immediately go over and talk to them. Doesn't matter if they are a rival or they are a current member of a DCI corps and you don't like amps/electronics. (I'll leave if you don't go to current DCI shows up for argument.) Edit: You show up for the beginning of ####### PRELIMS!!!! Edited March 9, 2010 by JimF-3rdBari
