As a former Hurricane who cherishes the legacy of it, I can say I honestly get very angry when I read that their win is being referred to as a "travesty". I'll be honest..... based solely on our performance at Finals in 1981, I thought we (Sun) had won that night. That Finals performance was our best show of the season.... and it was absolutely the best show I ever personally performed in 12 years of marching drum corps. But were we ever six points better than the Hurricanes that season? No, we weren't. Were the Hurricanes perfectly capable of beating us at a given show that year? Yes, they were. And the record shows that they are the DCA champions for 1981. So hats off to them. "Bus driver" hats, even. Just my opinion... and I know it's not shared by some other folks who marched that year.
