William Chumley - Program/Staff Coordinator

Denver, Colorado

As a marching member, instructor, consultant, judge, and color guard director, William Chumley has committed over 30 years to the pageantry arts, where his various roles have included: serving on the Board of Directors for the Rocky Mountain Color Guard Association for 20 years; judging worldwide for Drum Corps United Kingdom, Drum Corps Japan, Color Guard Netherlands, Winter Guard International, Bands of America, and Drum Corps International for 20 years; and training, mentoring, and scheduling judges as president of the Rocky Mountain Judges' Association for 12 years.

William is the Director of Education for Winter Guard United Kingdom, and trains judges and instructors around the world. William recently relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana and is the Color Guard Director for Center Grove High School.

William took several Colorado programs “to the next level” through sound training, programming, and instructing. Loveland High School moved from 11th to 3rd place in the Scholastic A class. Under William’s guidance, Rampart High School regained its title in the Scholastic A class and Legacy High School not only made WGI Scholastic Open finals for the first time, but achieved the Silver Medal and was promoted to Scholastic World Class.

William created Oracle Winter Guard as a nonprofit arts organization where its members were equipped to be ambassadors of excellence in behavior, performance, and achievement. As director of Oracle, William integrated his Master’s degree in Business Administration and 18 years’ experience in business and management with his passion for the color guard activity to cultivate a confident team of skilled individuals. William created an environment that supported proficiency of the guard members both as performers and as successful humans. Oracle’s achievements include: 2002 WGI Open Class World Champion; four-time WGI Independent World Class finalist, finishing in 9th place in 2003, 6th place in 2004, 4th place in 2005, and 6th place in 2006.

At Carolina Crown, William served as Color Guard Caption Manager in 2006 where he facilitated and optimized the creative process and the collaborative writing of the program. William promoted a safe and powerful culture in which team members experienced technical excellence, a deep connection to each other, achievement of personal and corps goals, and the total joy of performing.

It goes back to prelims '79. Some of the bile is still caught in the throats of the Crossmen from that year and many of the Trooper alum remember the classless acts that happenned during finals. I always liked Crossmen, especially their '79 show, but, they just took the day off during prelims.

1979 lol... thats a long time ago.

I think Troopers and Crossmen always got along quite nicely.

Troopers 2011 should perform "Blazing Saddles!" What hoot it would be to see 150 members in Calvary uniforms dancing and singing "Stick out your hands, stick out your..." (all of you that have seen Blazing Saddles know the rest) ;-D .

This could be an amazing idea.

The ballad of rock ridge, modified for drum corps, could also be excellent...

"Now is a time of great decision...Are we to stay or up and quit?.. there's no avoiding this conclusion.. this dome turns good sound into ####"

Far be it for an outsider like me to tell the Troopers what to do design wise.

But I do think I know this:

If the Troopers intend to get back any time soon to being a top Drum Corps, it will NOT be to become like the Carolina Crown, Blue Devils, Blue Stars, or any other Corps. The Troopers will need to ask themselves the most fundamental of questions, ie ...what was it that made makes us special in the first place ? unique ? different ? good ?

Fixed that for you. Honor the past. Don't live there.

Troopers website has more information available on the design and instructional team posted under the "membership info" section.

Looks like David Reeves is going to be arranging all of the music. Nick Benson and Adam Oswald are manning the visual design caption. William Chumley will be handling program coordination and staff coordination, and the caption heads from last year are all in place.

These things make me happy.

They could do this as an opening salute before the beginning of the show. Classy!
