Roark1
I can't wait for the day when this no longer considered "unusual". But it is progress.
Northern Thunder
Kelly and Carla were in the snare line in the 80's, but the first appears to be Bobbi DelCastello in 1975 (based on the BD rosters and an old forum topic at the BD website). Her profile says snare in 1974 and 1975, though another post (apparently by Kelly Houpt, based on the info she gives) said she marched "trios" in '74 and snare in '75. Kelly has been a poster on DCP, so she may see this and chime in.
84BDsop
I KNEW I forgot someone....'course, I marched with Carla and DIDN'T with Kelly....the "chick who don't tick" according to Float.
soccerguy315
I can't wait for the day when this no longer considered "unusual". But it is progress. progress toward what? A mythical goal that every sub-portion of society should mirror the gender split of society as a whole?
lindap
Kelley Houpt is her name. You spell well She and I corresponded in 2008 and exchanged photos of Tom. Small world ;-)

InspaDave
I can't wait for the day when this no longer considered "unusual". But it is progress. I know how you feel. I have never understood why guys make such a big deal about it. Some of the comments on ebuTuoY and Snarescience.com about girl snares, especially the ones that marched center, are absolutely ridiculous. Gender should never be an issue. Only hands. The only time it was "unusual" for me was the tenor girl for '99 SCV. I will say, however, I will be truly impressed when I see a girl on Bass 5. When I say Bass 5 I am not talking about a punk### 28" drum.

I think people only make such a big deal about it in drum corps because it isn't as common as it is in say High School or WGI marching percussion
