You pause or slow down to get back on the left foot while doing

the Stairmaster.

...when every family vacation is planned around shows.

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer, because my family did this (humored me) for nearly 20 years. DCI Indy pretty much took care of drum corps vacations. Now they get, maybe, 3 days out of me.

But I walk to work with the sound of Cavies exit cadence, Shoes in the Dryer, rumbling through my head.

(May apply only to drummers. Dunno)

You not only know the number of steps in your house, but you count them going both up and down, you take them in tempo and try to even out every step, and you sometimes play rudiments in your head to the sound of you feet on the treads.

There's rhythmic patterns in all of your life, from the computer keyboard to the rattle in your car when your sitting at a light.

When you want someone to talk to in the shower.

When you can't wake up unless someone turns on an overhead fluorescent light.

When you can't stand to the right of your wife because you always stood directly to her left in horn arc.

When you hear a metronome in the distance and think "I gotta go check this out!"

When diesel fumes smell like perfume.

When you sleep better in a bag on the floor.

When you look at someone's tan lines and are slightly jealous.

When the last 10:25 of your workout are always done to 2000 Cavaliers.

When you roll step when trying not to spill something.

When you have no problem carrying on a conversation (on the phone or otherwise, divider or no divider) while pooping.

When jeans and a t-shirt are dressy clothes.

That's when you put your cell phone in a plastic bag, or turn it on speaker phone really loud, so you can talk to friends.

When:

- You have an irresistible urge to fall asleep on the floor, wake up after a couple of hours, and make your way to bed

- Peanut butter sandwiches are a daily part of your diet

- You learn to recognize classical tunes because you heard them in corps shows

- Your marching band directors are blown away after a mediocre basics block

I can so relate...I count everything. When you've been yelled at so much for tapping your fingers...tapping pencils and pens on your desk..tapping your feet, that you resort to playing drum parts on your teeth (left side=left hand...right side =right hand)
