Guardguy89
Hi all, just watched their latest show on the Fan Network (Whitewater). I've got to say, as disappointed as I was with the show and especially the guard early season - the changes they have made are really good. The show is getting more exciting, the guard's staging has improved dramatically, and they seem to have added alot of new work. I think if they keep making these kinds of changes and can clean the whole thing up - they have a chance of being higher than 8th this year. Whatever happens - they'll be fine. Always have been, always will be! Later, Mike

skywhopper
I definitely felt like the visuals looked pretty great on the Whitewater broadcast. Having seen it live, too, there are several guard details that don't really play on high-cam. And although I enjoy the first third of the show (well, as soon as the horrendous pre-show pre-recorded mess is over), the ballad feels like a lost opportunity to bring some real emotion. And then the thunderous goo, the synth playing over the battery feature, and the synth ruining the brass impacts during the closer all make me really unhappy by the time the show is over. I honestly didn't even feel moved to applaud when I saw it live. Made me sad.
HockeyDad
Thunderous Goo?? Still?? Why haven't staffs figured this out yet - it's been several years now. C'mon, let's get with it.
flammaster
I like the music a lot but the sound effects are too loud. (as with all corps that use them) Never count out the green machine! They are dangerous in August!!!
skywhopper
Indeed, seeing them up against other corps that use a lot of synth like Spirit and Glassmen and even Madison, Cavies have the mix wayyyy too loud, and the synth part is overwritten to boot.
bass5
If the show in WW had "great changes" I'm glad I didn't have to sit through their show earlier. In a word "painful". I have been a cavalier fan since the 60's and have always loved their drum line but that was the dirtiest I have heard them in my life. 2nd place in drums - you have got to be kidding me.
Jim Anello
It would appear the judges didn't share the enthusiasm for the guard. They took fifth in that caption at Whitewater. Quite a surprise considering the talent in that corps.

I disagree that its overwritten. You can certainly make a case that its too loud, but I think they're getting exactly what they want from the sound design. Its just the direction they are going. There's a difference between a show having more synth than one would like, and overwriting the synth.

Quite a surprise considering the talent in that corps. Not really though, considering all the changes that they've been given (drill and work) they are really dirty right now with some really difficult work - so I'm not surprised that they aren't scoring right now - hopefully as they clean up the scores will get back up there!
