3rd Glasgow BB
I always thought it was pronounced Turan-DOH not Turan-DOT. However, the show announcers on the live streams are announcing Turan-DOT. If I am correct then would somebody at PR have a quiet word with the show announcers about the correct pronunciation.
kaseyW
You're correct. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turandot#Origin_and_pronunciation_of_the_name

Yeah when I was in school, we went on a class trip to see the opera at NJPAC, and my Orchestra director corrected me immediately when I mispronounced it as Turan-DOT. Turan-DOH is the correct pronunciation.
BlooFan
Yeah, that's how I have always known it. But I heard they are purposefully using that pronunciation because that was how Puccini's daughter said it.
fsubone
Even at the movie event, they touched on it, and said that Phantom is going to be calling it Tour-an-DOT this year, instead of Tour-an-DOH. Guess it's their call? They said they spoke with Puccini's family, and that's how they said it should be pronounced

general_tsos_chicken2
both are accepted. Turan DOT is correct however according to the puccini family
3rd Glasgow BB
hmmm. So both are correct but the pronunciation you use depends on which historical source you believe to be correct... Puccini's granddaughter (Turn-DOT) or Puccini himself (Turan-DOH).
chaos001
It never really made sense to me that there was a French pronunciation to the word. Since it literally means "daughter of Turan," with dot being of Indo-Euorpean origin, it should be pronounced with a "t" sound.
Vizualchemy
You're all wrong, It's Turan-Breathe-DAH! Edited July 8, 2012 by Vizualchemy
