skywhopper
Re teal admin's fault or the kids who didn't pay: while some kids will always try to get around paying their full dues it was the admins who decided to go on your without having the money to make it. It was the admins who allowed kids to go on tour without having paid. It's the admins' resposibility to collect the fees. How could it not be said the admin is primarily at fault? The kids who did pay got screwed by admins who didn't do their jobs. Edited July 19, 2012 by skywhopper
wishbonecav
Emotions like pain and hurt and a sense of faliure and the "need to explain" or the need to feel support and so forth are all a part of this situation and the feelings are very raw at this point. This is tragic in many ways and there isnt ONE person in the equation whose heart wasnt in the right place and who didn't in some way try to "do the right thing' or "save the day". There was sleep lost over months on this one...people staring at the ceiling and around their kitchen tables looking around and asking "we're in a real mess here....how the hell are we going to pull this one off?" To face the questions and the embarrassment and the sense that one let others down is very very hard. Let's cut them just a little slack before all the hot lights come on. Accountability doesnt disappear. It might just be put off for a short time until the tears dry. If you "have all the answers", great...that kind of input is probably going to be appreciated at some point. It might even be asked for. Let's remember that these people...regardless our opinion of their failures, are still a part of our family. If they bleed drum corps then we bleed with them and beating them up isnt going to do any of us any good. fsubone
Actually, the Sun Devils (DCA) still exist in Florida. We had to sit out the 2012 season. We are currently mobilizing and restructuring for 2013. Not taking the focus off this thread. Just wanted to let the world know there will be another option for 2013 in Florida. Good to know there will be an option for the Florida kids next year if Teal doesn't come back

I do hope if a kid skips paying a corps, they're banned from going elsewhere until they pay up. if it were me, I'd send the business to a collection agency

I certainly didn't claim to have any answers but was reacting to posts here that seemed to be absolving the corps itself because some kids didn't pay. Every corps faces that problem. I won't hesitate to support the Teal admin in the future if they make clear they have learned the right lessons here. The letter they sent out explaining the shutdown doesn't address their own mistakes. Only those of the members. The Raiders set the opposite example here and should be commended for it. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.00. Period. Has that rule gone by the wayside over the years?

It shows a lack of respect for the corps owed BUT there have been over the past several years many of the top corps that took these talented BUT DEAD BEAT KIDS...it also needs to cross over from winter percussion and guard groups and all age corps also....many have the same staff connections and are hurt in the same way if not worse Edited July 19, 2012 by GUARDLING
PioneerWebmaster
I do hope if a kid skips paying a corps, they're banned from going elsewhere until they pay up. if it were me, I'd send the business to a collection agency Pioneer tried to the collection agency route. For the amount of money most of these kids owe, you only get back pennies on the dollar. Unless you take some satisfaction in knowing that the collection agency is harassing these members from 8am until 9pm... it's probably not worth it. The better measure is to be proactive and make the members pay up front or on a set schedule. If they don't pay, rescind their contract offer and move on. That's the direction we headed this year and we actually have 20 more members than last year.
