charlie1223
I found it very strange and cheesy at first but I guess I have to admit that I enjoy Surfs show! The silly jokes, the non chalant attitude, the elements are there to make you just laugh, listen to music, and just chill and enjoy yourself! The reasons why they are scoring so low almost doesn't matter as the execution doesn't take away "too much" from what they are doing. I think that is smart for a corps that tends to be ranked lower. I can't help but think that the hobby horses on the field are a jab at BD! (all in good fun of course!) But this new style is working for them and hopefully it will stay even if they don't do a "Bridgemania" show. Infact it would be funny if Surf poked fun at some of the other corps and their shows like an lolcorps style show. I mean if they had Santa clause riding a hobby horse this year in their show I would die laughing. But anyway, Surfs show made me appreciate that drum corps can be silly when most corps do deep emotional shows like Turnadot/Christmas, and intellectual shows about Dada and The Common Good. Is this style going to stay? Edited August 2, 2012 by charlie1223
Jeff Ream
the horses were planned long before people knew about BD's show
Kamarag
I mean, it's William Tell. Horses are a no-brainer.

Tony Flores
They are having fun...they are entertaining the crowd and the crowd loves it. For surf....I think that's all that matters.

Is this style going to stay? You do know that their show was a tribute to The Bridgemen, don't you? Don't really know if it's a change in style so much as it was just doing what the Bridgemen used to do. I was in attendence with great seats in Atlanta and their show was by far my favorite of the night, but I'm an old school guy and really enjoyed seeing at least one show that got me up and off my feet. When I got up and started yelling "Bridgemen Shuffle" during that portion of the show, nobody around me seemed even remotely aware of why I was so excited. All the other Corps were just the standard generic "Marching Musical Theater" that all blended into each other. You know, the S.O.S., Corps after Corps, that just bored and frustrated me to death. Thank You Jersey Surf!

Thank You Jersey Surf! Yes, I know it's a Bridgeman show! That's why I'm asking if it will stick around! And I would say this show is a change in style. In the same way Madison changed their style in 2010. Edited August 2, 2012 by charlie1223
GUARDLING
Yes, I know it's a Bridgeman show! That's why I'm asking if it will stick around! And I would say this show is a change in style. In the same way Madison changed their style in 2010. I think they could consider having some fun shows BUT to actually continue to do Bridgemen wouldnt be good IMO...they need to establish themselves and their own style and approach to fun if thats what they want to do.. , Like bridgemen, do it real well and gain high level skills.......thats what Bridgemen had ..they got to do what they did and many loved it because it was also at a very high top 5 level
