If I'm spending 1000s of dollars in air fares, hotels and tickets then I want a cast iron gaurantee that finals will go ahead without any delays.

That gaurantee is LOS.

Did you first start going to Finals when they began being held at LOS? Honest question. If not, you never had that guarantee at the outdoor venues.

Quad, yes. For decades dci fans have been traveling to finals with the risk of a rain out or delay happening. Fortunately mother nature was kind during that time and didn't interfere. That still doesn't mean that all those fans were ok with the risk.

I spent almost 1000 dollars to travel from Texas to Indy and sure as hell am glad I didn't have to deal with a rain delayed prelims on Thursday. My flight leaves early tomorrow morning so I'm certainly glad knowing the finals won't be postponed tonight due to weather.

And today it will be 75 and sunny, PERFECT weather for DCI Finals. Where is the thread about that?

But nice try with it "likely" that people would have been hurt or killed by the storms. Exaggerate much??? No, you see, actually, that wouldn't have even been an issue because the venue wouldn't have been in Indianapolis. Or if it was, they would have closed the roof like they were supposed to and things would have been just fine. Despite popular myth, it does not take half a day to close the roof. It takes MINUTES.

I am from Indianapolis, I work downtown, I know about the whole deal. It is great we have a roof. But it is also great we have the OPTION that DCI absolutely raved about when moving Finals here to open it whenever possible. I will find the article if you like, I have it on my computer saved somewhere. The fact is, they'll never do that though! This is despite the ability to open the roof AND the side panel windows both for a great acoustic environment (ask the Glassmen when they performed there with the roof open for rehearsal). Even on days like today where there is an absolute 0% chance of rain and nothing but SUN and pleasant temps for the entire day, they will no open it because they believe we are simply content now with indoor drum corps. Heck, tonight it will be 68-72 degrees and clear and calm, even better!

Yes, there are curtains. Well, they have had since last night to take them down. All day today until this evening in fact. They plan to take them down tonight anyway after the show, might as well get started now. Why not actually surprise the fans -- you know, the paying public that is the reason DCI exists, and the ones that pay $125 a pop to have a seat anywhere within the 20 yard lines -- and give them a show where we have an outdoor environment?

But but but, "the shows are designed for the indoor venue" now. Whatever, BS. These corps have performed outside all season long. 95% of the shows are outdoors, there is no reason why they would suffer for DCI Finals if it were outside. The season outdoors is just as important as the final days. You have to be successful playing the game in the weeks and months leading up to the final show to even be considered for a Top 12 spot. These kids and the fans deserve to have a better acoustic environment, and a cool, pleasant evening at Lucas Oil Stadium would be fantastic for all of us.

But we'll never know how it would be because DCI outright lied to us about their intentions when they first made the agreement... and that is a fact.

I hope to get to Indy some year to at least see the all-day Thursday prelims show.

If I had been there for that show this year, I would have much preferred to be indoors, in air conditioning, rather than running for my life out of the seating area when that huge storm blew through the area.

...DCI outright lied to us about their intentions when they first made the agreement... and that is a fact.

Correction: That is an opinion, not a fact.

It was expected that the roof would be open during the time that Lucas Oil Stadium was still being constructed. I was at the social function with VIPs in Madison when Dan announced he was heading to Indianapolis the next day for the big public announcement.

After we got into the stadium, reality took on a different dimension. (The lack of floor drainage, which was cut due to budget concerns...the curtains that got added across a larger expanse across the back...)

You mentioned that 95% of the shows are held in outdoor stadiums. That is correct. (Might even be higher, since the only indoor venues are the Alamo Dome, the Georgia Dome and Lucas Oil Stadium.) However, the corps staffs now have it figured out how to perform in Lucas Oil Stadium. I believe that opening the roof on them would mess with all the tinkering they've done to exploit the conditions to which they have become accustomed.

I absolutely respect your passion and your opposing opinion. I just share an opinion that is contrary. Please enjoy the performances no matter what is overhead.

That is not correct. The floor drainage was cut long before the plans for DCI to sign their contract. The Indianapolis news stations all completely and accurately reported this budget cut accurately before the announcement was made to hold Finals week here... now whether or not they were misinformed, or simply not aware of the drainage issue, that is a different issue. I know what I heard, and the fact it was brought up as this big surprise to DCI makes me laugh.

Regardless, there are numerous events held at the stadium with the roof open (non-NFL), even with chances for rain! And wild temperatures... 50-85 degrees.

The Colts themselves even had a gametime temp of 53 one weekend.

My point is, there should be no reason for concern on days like today where every meteorologist across a span of 300 miles outside of Indianapolis is agreeing that this area will see mild temps and sunshine today.

Again... minutes to close the roof.

"Best effort to open the roof" is far from reality in DCI's mindset right now. But it sure as #### appeased the masses when that press release came out, didn't it?

I like you Mike, but you don't live here in Indianapolis. You know as well as I do that Region Rats don't have the Indianapolis news, especially stuff about Lucas Oil Stadium. :)

I feel IMComguy hovering to show us the report where he thinks DCI promised to be opening the roof as much as possible for championships. I vaguely remember the discussion he's referring to, but IMComguy: that doesn't make DCI "outright liars." It means they changed their mind. Calling them liars means you can show us that they knew they'd never be opening the roof when they said that, and that there was deliberate deception on the point. I don't think you can show that.

DCI is the collection of corps directors (an evolving group of people--who change their minds). The series of Indy championships in a new stadium was a project in evolution. Things were bound to get altered--like that small matter of cutting the drainage from the project to save money; the impact of that was not thought through and not thoroughly understood by the DCI community at the same time they were committing to a long-term deal there.
