androidx2 Posted September 4, 2012 Share Posted September 4, 2012 It's still a stupid rule, regardless of who voted for it. I've never really been a fan of restricting voting rights based on score. If you make the effort to get to shows including championships, why isn't that good enough? A valid point. But it is important for the voting members to be vetted and experienced with DCA. If all participating corps championship weekend had voting rights, it's possible, in a voting year, you could have too many "New" votes that could change the whole scene. Kind of a knights of the round table kind of thing. If me and 10 of my friends could get a seat at that table just by showing up, we could make some big changes and not really have any experience in what we are doing. The truth is DCA is all about the regular season shows. Without them, the championship and the corps do NOT exist. Due to economic times and extreme cost of travel - this fact is more important than ever... If this rule actually bothered our brothers in the "7" corps, then they would have worked out a compromise to have their show sanctioned - I think they are to be complimented for their ability to put out such a large and competent, no wonderful corps and still coming east every year at GREAT expense. and again remember that the proceeds (profits) of the season are divided up and distributed via the share point system which rewards 1 share point fo every corps that competes in every regular season show... Kidsgrove will even get two share points for competing in Bridgeport and Pennsauken... I join others in pointing out that the vote on this voting membership rule was 10 - 0 with Renegades voting in favor... I rest my case... beating a dead horse? I understand that there may be an option to bring it somewhere else next year if the attendance numbers don't pan out. Soooooo i'm wondering about the crowd................. It wasn't Thanksgiving weekend, but Labor Day weekend. It is still supposed to be hot, as it is still summer. Was the amazing lunch we had filled with seafoods of various kinds expensive? Yes, and very, very awesome (and probably just as expensive anywhere for that matter). My hotel was only slightly more than last year's BUT came with breakfast every morning for all 4 of us, which made it much cheaper in the long run. Not really sure what your beef is with Annapolis but compared to Rochester there was much more to do and see, and was a much, much nicer place. Didn't have to worry about the neighborhood around the stadium. Could walk around downtown at your leisure. It was much more inclusive of a place to have finals, so if you went a couple of days early or stayed a few days later, there was still much to do and see. I don't have an exact number either, but here's a picture of the crowd during retreat (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/28408884/retreat.jpg). Was told by the DCA admin that it's the largest DCA weekend crowd they've had in several years. Hot? Yes, it was unseasonably hot this year. About 12 degrees over the average (http://www.weather.com/weather/wxclimatology/monthly/graph/21401). Expensive? In some spots, yes. There are "budget friendly" areas in and around Annapolis. It's like any other metro area, the closer you get to the center, the more expensive it is. I do think people appreciated having the availability/option of higher end hotels and restaurants. Its a football field first and foremost which is something that DCA hasent seen at finals in how many years??? Secondly if you do the math (I know cringe you skeptics) it geographically closer for the Majority of the corps and the NE fan base. MUCH closer for those making the trip up from the south and cheaper for corps to fly into than other venues. Its not surprising that paid attendance was up this year given that its closer in proximity to the majority of the fan base. I even know a good many DCA fans from the South made the trip and paid for tickets because it was closer and there were attractions in the area that made it a "worthwhile" trip. camel lips Posted September 4, 2012 Share Posted September 4, 2012 I am sure the are going to be detractors that are going to make mention over the next months and year about how much better the I@E venue is in Rochester. While not ideal it sure beats marching uphill on a spotlighted ski slope parking lot which is what we had in 2004 in Scranton. I@E does not pay the bills. The big show does. Please keep that in mind.
