It depends. Are you trying to make a show that the crowd might enjoy?

A show players in an Open Class DCA corps might enjoy?

A show players in an A class DCA corps might enjoy?

A show players in DCI might enjoy?

A show the judges might enjoy?

A show jazz enthusiasts might enjoy?

A show classical music enthusiasts might enjoy?

A show pop music enthusiasts might enjoy?

A show my grandmother might enjoy?

A show my brother might enjoy?

A show little kids might enjoy?

It doesn't exist.

The best thing you can do is create the best show your staff can create and hope it goes over well. I recall sitting in the stands watching a very popular corps play their show and thinking "I'm bored and don't like this" yet the slightly older crowd LOVED them. I also remember playing a show I loved playing and having another member confide in me that he/she hates the music. Just do your best and get good instructors. As long as people are learning on the field and your vision comes to life it's all you can ask.

I always thought it wouild be cool if someone tried an arrangement of Edgar Winter's Frankenstein, but you would have to have one heck of a horn line with a lot of intestinal fortitude to pull it off, especially 'cause I wouldn't want to use electronics..

That said,

Opener, William Tell Overture, a la Bridgemen

Firebird - from the mid '70s Cavilers

Closer - Bottle Dance from, well, you know.....

Might be hard to arrange, but I always thought a ska show would be pretty cool to play. Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Real Big Fish just to name a couple, have some great songs with some awesome horn licks.

I always wanted to play Richard Strauss's Death and Transfiguration, a tonal poem about life and death.

Thank you all for the input. Lots of good music to consider. We have a great production staff put together and a great instructional staff. We will do our best to deliver a solid, competitive product for all of DCA!

The Music of Charles Ives and Scriabbin.

I would love to hear a corps play an all Ives show. Has anyone ever played Ives?
