Chronologically, my favorites...

1989 Santa Clara Vanguard

1994 Santa Clara Vanguard

1994 Blue Devils

2000 Santa Clara Vanguard

2007 Santa Clara Vanguard

2010 Phantom Regiment

I would agree with those who say no one does a soft ending quite like Santa Clara.

Santa Clara originated the quiet ending, and have always had amazingly effective ones. The results of this poll seem to bear that out. SCV '89 and '09 are the highest voted shows, then Cadets '87. Then Phantom 2010

For me it has to be Crossmen 1992.

I have a feeling some of you weren't even involved in the activity (or born yet) to know this show.

Listed above are what I believe to be all the quiet endings performed by DCI World Class Finalists, plus the three soft closers that I know of in World Class competition this year (at least two of which are almost certain to be Finalists). I have defined "soft" somewhat liberally, including some cases where "medium" might be the better term. "Ending" likewise is broadly considered: some of these ends are fairly short tags following a very loud moment. Because there were 36 such closers, but the poll settings only allow for 25 choices per question, I have split them into two groups (alternating, in chronological order). Please pick one corps for the first question and one for the second question, and then in the third question, indicate which of your two choices you like most.

Blue Devils 04 exiting the field at Mile High through the tunnel, not even stopping. Absolutely my favorite show to perform and that was a hell of a twist! I will need to start watching some of these others, besides SCV 89 I don't know how many I've seen.

How about it? Would that be your choice?

(I did write, "Another that might qualify is Blue Devils' 1994 show, 'My Spanish Heart', despite the big drum hits", in the original post. I think of that as a medium rather than a soft ending, but anyone who wants to vote for it can do so!)

Definitely my choice! Another one similar to this one is SCV 1991, surprise surprise, same percussion caption head, Scott Johnson

Yeah, that's another one that I thought was on the cusp, since it ends with just drums while the giant Vietnamese flag is unfurled across almost the whole field, but it seemed too loud. Again, anyone who wants to pick that one should feel free to say so! And believe me, before posting this poll, I listened to the last two minutes of every show on the Fan Network.

Does your taste for "Appalachian Spring" not extend to SCV '83? (Also, there's yet another drum corps version of that tune that ends softly, although I didn't list it: the one from Blast!)
