First on the field in competition tonight is Coastal Surge from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Their 2014 program is entitled "A Southern Saga: Scenes from Charlestowne Harbor" and consists of:

Spangled Heavens by Grantham, Donald

Gone by McAlister, Scott

Final Battle from 'We Were Soldiers' by Glennie-Smith, Nick

Symphony #1 by Theofanidis, Chris

Coastal Surge starts with a pre-show of ocean waves coming from the pit. There is a guard couple up front, the male kneeling and holding the hand of the female.

Nice balance and blend from the horns on a company front move. Drums also have a crisp sound to them. Low brass putting out a great foundation for the rest of the horns to sit on.
