Kamarag Posted August 31, 2014 Share Posted August 31, 2014 It was mentioned (more than once) during today's Alumni Spectacular, that there are four Class A corps, ten open class corps and ONE exhibition on the schedule for tonight...they wouldn't say who the exhibition corps is, but I'm guessing Star United as the mini corps winner. They also kept mentioning some kind of "50th Anniversary" tribute beginning at 5 pm...which is likely to #%$$ more than a few people off, as the posted start time on the tickets is 5:30. And now for a completely off topic comment, but Cabs Alumni tribute to Red Corso today was a tear jerker and class act all the way (not to mention a great arrangement and superbly played). The Windsor Regiment exhibition is listed on the DCA schedule page for the show. You're absolutely right...the Red Corso tribute was very well done. It's not a matter of winning and losing. The game is the game. If you make finals, you move on. If you don't, you shouldn't. NO ONE was mad at Sunrisers last year for playing the exhibition. Go back and reread the thread. Many people, however, were upset with DCA for offering Sun the exhibition spot over Heartliner...you know, the group that traveled from Germany to participate, and nearly made A Class finals of their own accord. The overwhelming consensus of that thread was that there should only be an exhibition for something extraordinary, like Heartliner or the Commandant's Own. Star United earned the exhibition spot in Finals, while Windsor Regiment did not. It's not like they invited Excelsior to perform, as the only A Class corps knocked out. Shouldn't they be playing too if that's the policy? I would agree. IMO I just always thought having the 1st corp OUT of finals doing an exhibition. WHY! doesn't make sense. The years there were just 11 corps or worse 12 made it more crazy. When there was 11 , just let the 11th darn corps in and forget the exhibition or when there was 12 in prelims , all but one get to perform. Unfortunately, if you are out you are , no exhibition...jmo, Maybe I would feel different if I ever was with an 11th place corps. I always thought there should be maybe 6 or 7 in finals and A class finals all together maybe. A class on 1st ( top 3 or 4 ) then top 6 or 7 of OC. Can you imagine the riots of those OC corps use to finals , even if the bottom all the time. Crown the A Class champion at prelims, and then take the top 12 corps by score regardless of class as finalists. Heck, take 15. Whatever. With the top ten being the voting members. You still reward Class A corps for a job well done, but you get the top corps in finals regardless of class.
