Eleran
Sum total of texts from my son about today with Jersey Surf: "It was fine; long. We just finished rehearsal" 11:11 pm Guess I'll have to wait until I pick him up tomorrow to hear anything of note.
TroopAlum12
A new drum corps that is starting up out of Utah had their first ever camp this weekend. The Battalion. Very good turnout for a brand-new corps. Photos are up on their Facebook page Blue Knights also has camp this weekend. I have a few vague connections there, but haven't heard anything.
HornTeacher
saw a couple facebook and twitter pictures from Cavaliers and Crossmen... Speaking of Crossmen...today is Fred Morrison's birthday. Happy birthday, Fred. And the best of luck to the Crossmen this year.
seen-it-all
I heard that (insert corps name here) had record attendance at camp this weekend! So many horn players they didn't know what to do with them all! The staff is so great and they've already played through (insert high number here) of the show music already! They're miles ahead of where they were last year! They're surely going to finish in the top (insert number about four or five placements higher than they placed last year)! Months later, they're advertising on their website that they're looking for tuba players and a lead trumpet in the beginning of June, they begin the season with an incomplete show, they finish two spots lower than they did last year, and the Blue Devils win again. (all in fun, folks....the penchant for exaggeration and wild predictions do tend to become rather humorous this time of year)
xandandl
I am not sure when he actually garners Dinosaur status a la DCP, but this Cadet camp marks the 36 year Geritol Hopkins is with the organization for their 81st season. Yes, strong turn out at the first of auditions before another in December and the out of area auditions in Florida and Texas. Turn out is great for both C and C2; nice number of vets for C1. Weather is also obliging with 55 partly cloudy skies in Pennington, NJ. This season is starting out quite well. **Someone cited Crossmen celebrating Director Fred's birthday; BLUECOATS get the Thanksgiving chance to celebrate Dave Glasgow's birthday, All the best to both. Word on the wire is that Dave is younger than the years Geritol Hopkins has been with Cadets, ha, ha. But some are more better than others ($0.02 each to Orwell & Boston).
oldsoprano
Judging from the number of cars in the parking lot when I passed by a few hours ago, I'd say Cavaliers had a very good turnout for their Atlanta-area auditions. Wish we could have stopped and listened on show-and-tell, but We were on our way to meet some folks for brunch and didn't have time.
HornTeacher
The gist is that every corps is better with more talent than last year. But some are more better than others ($0.02 each to Orwell & Boston). And $0.01 to the Endowment Fund of every Corps that finishes the same as last year. ( All others owe $0.02 to the Endowment Fund of the fellow competition Corps of their choice.)
