garfield
So many fans here talk about their political show a couple of years later, but my favorite Suncoast Sound show was actually A Florida Suite, their 1985 All-original music production by Robert W. Smith. DCI (and specifically, Mike Boo) WRITES about it today, and the story told by Smith is really fun and exciting, and completely par-for-the-course in 1980's drum corps. You can see HIGHLIGHTS of the show to taste some truly amazing original drum corps writing (not "just" arranging). Good golly, what a horn line! P.S. This is but one of the reasons why I own the Legacy collection. This. One. Show. Edited December 7, 2015 by garfield
Hrothgar15
Some days I feel like I'm the only one who prefers the 1989 redux of this show. So much better designed and put together in my opinion.

Visually, absolutely. Musically, no.

TerriTroop
I truly LOVED this show, and still do!
perc2100
P.S. This is but one of the reasons why I own the Legacy collection. This. One. Show. It's also on The Essentials vol. 3 Blu-ray, I think. This being the featured performance is like fate's way of saying "seriously: buy that dang Essentials Blu-ray before it's too late"
Hrothgar15
Visually, absolutely. Musically, no.The musical pacing of the 85 show seems so all over the place to me. Based on what top corps did from 85 to 89 I feel like musical design really modernized in those four years, with lower-placing corps following along in their programming. A lot of 1989 shows feel closer to 2015 musically than to 1985 and I can only guess as to the culprit. But the first movement of the 1989 show is just a quintessential "drum corps opener" in every way, in the same way something like Cadets 2000's is.
