Carolina Crown 2017

Hey = I think what he meant was to "those paying attention" the drill and some of the other design approaches had become a bit stale and they "figured" some changes would happen

As an outsider I personally thought the drill design and the visual approach (choreography included) had become very stale and repetitive so I personally felt some changes should or would happen

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Crown 2016 was my least favorite Crown in many years. Excellent performance levels but stale. They medaled because we saw an uncompetitive Cadets and a SCV that just missed.

What's getting under Brasso's skin here is that anyone might say a word less than complimentary about the departed staff.  If he actually read what other's posted,  he wouldn't be so shocked to hear that there were those who took issue with some design choices made during their stay at Crown.   But reading what other actually write has never been his strong point.

P-M-T  put together some great shows.  But expectations at Crown are very high.  There's a very strong feeling of "don't let the performers down".  Look at '14 -- PMT clearly admitted they were going to "figure out" the tramps as the season wore on.  That's fine if you can make it happen.  But if you invest all that time and treasure in those props and they end up being perceived a fatal flaw,  well it's not a good thing.  Same can be said of last year and the stagecoach.  PMT decided to make that thing one-sided (at $10k an expensive prop)) and it forced awkward staging moments into the show that just didn't need to be there (and because of the coach design,  couldn't readily be fixed).

Now sure -- you can sit back and say "Crown has been doing extremely well!  How can anyone possibly complain?"  The fact is when you move into those lofty heights, your expectations do change.   Starting a season with a big design flaw goes from "hey we'll figure it out" to "hey you didn't do your homework".

Brasso wants to crow about BAC's new staff.  In fact not only does he crow about Boston, he's crowing about Pride (who he's never mentioned in the past  but now is somehow worthy of his crow-age).    And if anyone dare say something less than glorious about his new shiny staff,  he's apparently going to go full on G.I. Joe on them.  OTOH he doesn't want to crow too much -- because they all want to keep their expectations super secret.  So he's going a little off his golf cart.  It's fine.  We all understand, ol' can of polish.

If what I heard this weekend is true about one of the program's musical selections, it is a good bit different from Crown's recent source music. I think it will translate to the field swimmingly, very energetic and innovative.

How long was Leon May at CC? I know since at least 2006, earlier than that? New drill design is what I am most excited to see from them in 2017.

wait.  you're not insulted but you think it's derogatory?

I'm impressed with this reply anyway. For a previous fleeting moment, I was not entirely sure you could reasonably handle two corresponding thoughts that can both be answered logically and without contradiction, in the affirmative. " Yes " I was not personally insulted. " Yes ", it was a clear derogatory description by you of the Corps, and that was your intent as well for using it.  Also, I 'm pretty sure the Corps does not care about your derogatory quip.. and neither do I. But that does not mean I can't mention your derogatory swipe at the Corps. I said " Yes" to my mentioning it in my commentary too. Because I felt like it. The needless swipe at the Corps said more about you than me or the Crusaders, imo. So to that extent, I believe it was worth mentioining. But really, in the grand scheme of things, your derogatory description of Boston doesn't mean Jack... so I'll treat it as such, moving forward.

I love SCV... probably more than most on here, but to say Crown medaled last season because " SCV just missed " disregards the fact that when it comes to Crown and SCV, SCV always " just missed ".  The head to heads the last 8-10 years between Crown and SCV tells the storytline here, Tobias. And these heads to heads results are not a one off. These multi season results put to bed the idea that Crown medaled last season because " SCV just missed " last season. ahhhh.. lol!... I don't think so. Crown medaled because... are you ready for this... they had a better Guard last season that framed the Visuals better than SCV and the Cadets, That alone could not win them a DCI Title, but it was enough to keep them ahead of both SCV and Cadets by just enough, Tobias.
