Either 8th or 7th IMO - Crossmen 2017 is the real deal :) I 100% agree with this. Crossmen are the real deal for sure. They have an excellent design and they are executing well. After seeing them the other night, I have definitely moved them up in my rankings from the 9-12 group to the 7-9 group. I think they could finish as high as 7th too. 1-3: BD, Bloo, SCV 4-6: Cadets, Crown, Cavies 7-9: BAC, Crossmen, BK. 10-12: Regiment, Blue Stars, Madison Edited July 7, 2017 by henry7184
drumcorpsfever
Well, that about wraps up 2017! Nice write up, though. Enjoyed the conjecture. Edited July 7, 2017 by drumcorpsfever
drumcorpsfever
Also, I don't think we will have 9 corps at 90+. If so, that might be the most ever at 90+.

It would be the most ever, but it would also be a tie with the three previous years that happened. I've been looking forward to a day when ten corps break 90 (probably not this year); the record score for 10th place is 89.1 -- does anyone know, without looking, what corps, show, and year that was? Anyway, here are the three 9-above-90 years: 2013 1. 98.300 Carolina Crown, "E=mc2" 2. 98.050 Blue Devils, "The re:Rite of Spring" 3. 96.950 Cadets, "Side x Side: The Music of Samuel Barber" 4. 98.850 Santa Clara Vanguard, "Les Miserables" 5. 93.350 Bluecoats, "...to Look for America" 6. 93.250 Phantom Regiment, "Triumphant Journey" 7. 90.500 Cavaliers, "Secret Society" 8. 90.400 Boston Crusaders, "Rise" 9. 90.100 Madison Scouts, "Corps of Brothers: 75 Years of Survival" 2004 1. 98.700 Cavaliers, "007" 2. 98.525 Blue Devils, "The Summer Train Blues MIX" 3. 96.825 Santa Clara Vanguard, "Attraction: The Music of Scheherazade" 4. 95.600 Cadets, "Living in the Past" 5. 93.575 Phantom Regiment, "Aspasionada 874" 6. 92.125 Bluecoats, "Mood Swings" 7. 91.225 Carolina Crown, "Bohemia" 8. 91.175 Madison Scouts, "MadiSonic" 9. 90.525 Boston Crusaders, "The Composition of Color" 1992 1. 97.500 Cavaliers, "Revolution and Triumph" 2. 97.000 Cadets of Bergen County, "To Tame the Perilous Skies" 3. 96.700 Star of Indiana, "American Variations" 4. 95.400 Blue Devils, "Big, Bad and Blue" 5. 93.700 Madison Scouts, "City of Angels" 6. 92.200 Crossmen, "Songs for the Planet Earth" 7. 91.800 Santa Clara Vanguard, "Fiddler on the Roof" 8. 91.500 Phantom Regiment, "War and Peace" 9. 90.000 Blue Knights, "Portraits of Aaron Copland"

The right answer was my 2nd choice. Edited July 7, 2017 by DrumManTx

I wonder which will happen first: ten corps above 90 in DCI, or eight corps above 90 in DCA? (DCA has had seven corps at 90+ on eight occasions: 2013, 2012, 2008, 2007, 2003, 2002, 2001, and 1990. Personally, I thought eight corps should have broken 90 in 2016.)

It's amazing how long that particular record has stood. Of course, the best-ever sixth-place score dates from the following year--and I suspect that one won't ever be broken. Did the same year the highest 6th place score come from also hold the highest 5th place score until 2014? And yeah, that top 6 was monstrous. That 10th place show from the year before that holds the record was super super super ahead of its time.

I'm sitting on a gold mine of "what ifs?" and other silly stat comparisions/projections. One of them is basically creating a "Finals" of every corps finishing in a position at Finals (Top 12 1sts, Top 12 2nds, etc.) I should start posting them... EDIT: Looking at the 12th place rankings, I have a bold prediction that 1st place in those rankings will fall this year...
