xandandl
Juniors and seniors looking toward college, their parents and fans might be happy to know that there will be two great college band festivals in the Northeast again this Fall. Several DCI corps also have information tables and personnel at these exhibition events. Oct. 1 will be at Allentown's J. Birney Crum Stadium usually with 20 different college marching bands between noon and 5 p.m. http://vivaceproductions.com/cmbf/ Flomarching also has it on its schedule. Oct. 8 will be the Fourth Annual Northeast college band festival at the College of the Holy Cross stadium off I-290 in Worcester, Mass. with about 10 college bands slated between noon and 4 pm. https://www.facebook.com/events/1059828794117628/ list hasn't been updated in awhile. There is also some site floating about concerning a proported "National" College Marching Band "championship" in Columbia, SC in December but the site gives few details and may just be someone's speculative hopes. The Honda Battle of The Bands http://www.hondabattleofthebands.com/mobile/ exists for the Historically Black Colleges and Universities. But something like that would not be practical for most other University Marching Bands; mainly because most of them change up too much music and drill for each home game that perfecting something to BOA competition level would be nearly impossible. As for University groups that do WGI, that of course all exists for small ensembles after fall marching season is over. Anyone can start a website, but few follow through. If no details by now when university and college schedules have been set well in advance by a year or so, I doubt if this is/will be a reality. Check the Gamecocks band schedule for one.; USC is in Columbia, SC and the supposed contest does not appear on their schedule for 2017. DCP has seen a number of idealists over the years announcing new corps that never existed excepted in the poster's fantasies. (Hollywood Knights, Lion of Judah, etc.) This is probably like that. The survey was gauging interest. Perhaps they did not get enough interest in the idea. The suggested date ranges in the survey were December 1 - 3, 2017 January 19 - 26, 2018
