It's just my opinion and I am a big fan of a corps having staff who act like professionals and trust the marching members once they are about to perform. If you like staff members on the field then by all means feel free to express that. I'm not sure why you're so hung up on this, especially because it's during set up, not during the performance. Last year, SCV had so many MMs out for a few shows that staff in street clothes had to push some of their props around.
