KLHilberg
I have a foggy memory of a small show somewhere in Oregon 91 where we had an "incident" with Freelancers on the retreat block. It was one of those stand your ground disputes/feet on the yard line, elbow to elbow pushing and stamping. I remember it got pretty heated, lots of abuse flying around, both DM's had to get involved. Cue MikeBob Ah yes "Drums of Fire" in Woodburn, Oregon only place we ever got to do a victory concert. We won it in 92 I believe.....
ContraRich77
I love and miss the Freelancers and wish they'd come back someday.

Smacked the stuffing out of the Marauders! Take that, Marauders! I kid, I kid. I dug those guys, especially their '91 and '92 shows. "Captain Blood"! "Victory At Sea"! Good stuff. Also, holy ####! Ken Hilberg! Was that in Woodburn? I actually think it was a show in Washington that year. If I'm remembering correctly, the show itself was on a baseball field. Northern Lights (?) were there. Our buses were parked in a forest, and one of them wouldn't start after the show. I'm going to say it was Vancouver, WA, but I can't be sure. Anyway, I do remember that incident somewhat. Not all the details, but certainly someone got into it with a BD guy over the yard line. Our horn sargeant and BD's horn sargeant had a little tete-a-tete, although I don't recall how it resolved. Probably not very well. The next year, when Paul Rich was horn sargeant, we had a significantly different attitude at retreat when that sort of thing came up.... That? That was just genuine class. It was one of the traditions at Freelancers that I really appreciated. Ladies don't go unescorted (unless they're wearing the cadet, in which case I guess they can take care of themselves). It was part of the "knight" image. Bob (yes, I'll stick with the nickname), As you'll remember, the rest of the corps was also required to have at least one "buddy" while in uniform. Another tradition I appreciated. ogre
This whole subject makes me miss retreats again. These kids don't realize how much they are being cheated with the DM only retreats. And the shows have lost a little of the luster for me.
