You know you're "Old School" when revisited...

Recommended Posts

You are at least a little old school if you can remember:

1) Sitting in front of the TV to watch DCI Finals. . .

All top 12 corps. . .

Live as it happened;

and

2) You remember anxiously awaiting the DCI Finals records.

(For those of you who don't know what records are/were, they were large, black vinyl disks that were played on a machine called a turntable that reproduced sound by using a needle. No lasers.)

you know you're old school if ...

- you can remember at least 3 drum and bugle corps headquartered within 25 miles of where you lived

- you saw the Blue Devils perform when they were still a Drum and Bell corps

- you wore boots and kick-pleat skirts and carried a 7-foot pole with a pike on top

- the only yard line on the field at finals was the 50

- whatever you carried on the field stayed WITH you

- people you knew as kids have become respected and revered instructors, arrangers, corps directors. etc.

- you remember full corps retreats and playing yourselves off the field

- you can remember that the show started the MOMENT you put on the uniform

- winterguard was "competition" guard -- sans music

- the people you march with in senior corps are amazed that you're still doing this stuff :P

You still have all your old t-shirts Sue???

Mine only lasted until I got my first car, I wish I hadn't done that!!!

But on the other hand I couldn't wear them today any way!! :silly:

I still have all of mine from '77-current. In fact, in 1980 my boyfriend (now husband) bought one of every top 12 corps and NEVER wore them! They are still packed away in a vacuumed sealed bag. Some day we should put them up for auction on ebay.

well, let's see........ I remember the cranks on the tymps, and I remember having to carry the keys and tymps. I was actually grateful they changed the ruling to allow tymps to be put on the feild instead of carrying them around, nothing looked dorkier in the drumline.... I also remember flag slings..... yeah you never see them anymore ha ha ha... and when my son joined D&B corps last year, my father pulled out his old records of the 74 Muchachos. My son couldn't believe you could actually play a book like that with only a valve and a rotor ha ha ha ha.
