http://www.drummajor.net/Pipes/Mace/Index....OF%20THE%20MACE

Something not taught to drum majors anymore.  Today's drum major camps are just to teach them basic commands and how to count.

Steve,

There were VERY few DM's who carried a mace "back then" as well.

BTW, George Parks' UMASS band has at least one of their DM's do a mace routine.

Mike

:silly:

Where do you think the UMASS band got its 'mace' stuff from. Professor George was THE absolute master of handling a mace. Not even the DM's from any military band or Drum Corps could match his presence.

I always loved it when George would throw his mace about a mile in the air, catch it, and then slam it into the ground before jumping on his podium. ( it was almost as fun when Pepe Nataro took his Hurc lightning bolt and stuck it into the 'ground' at the DCA finals in 81...into a ceramic pot of dirt, since the show was on turf at Franklin Field in Philly) Pepe was always good for good-natured ribbing..man I miss him.

Here's one for 'ya.. Anyone remember when MBI was just Brass, Inc.? Everyone always asked, 'Where 'ya from?' Hence the change..

Yeah! - I'm Old School!

Pat

I know...that's why I mentioned it.

I saw him with Reading many times.

BTW, he also does a mace training session at his DM Academy for those who need that expertise. My daughter attended George's DM school twice at West Chester U, as she was DM her junior and senior years.

You know you're old school when you remember the FOUR CORPS from Kitchener

Waterloo, Ontario, Canada and the five different classes they were in, in 1977:

Northstars Drum & Bugle Corps -- Open Class

Ventures Drum & Bugle Corps -- All-Girl & "A" Class

Kiwanis Kavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps -- "C" Class

Cadets of Dutch Boy Drum & Bugle Corps -- Cadet Class

Not bad four a city with only 99,000 people, MOST of the kids were LOCAL!!!!

And from just 10 miles down the road in Cambridge, Ontario, CANADA

The ST. Andrews Drum & Bugle Corps -- "C" CLASS

I'm glad I marched in MY "GOOD OLD DAYS!!!!" :silly::silly::silly:

Of course your good old days may vary, depending when you marched!!!!!!!

You are all old school.

I was called old school in '99 when I was on staff with a corps. It made me laugh. I can't even say I got to perform with a two valve sop. I did, however, play a 2 valve flugle my first two camps.
