uncle z
I figure if Jeff Foxworthy can milk that "you might be a redneck if......." thing to death, uncle z should be allowed to do this thread several times over!!!!! b**bs And now, on the brink of a new season, let's raise a glass to drum corps past!!!!!! You KNOW you're "old school" when................................................................. 1. You know what the "mace walk" is. 2. You can claim to have seen a "Blue Who?" sign. 3. You can remember Blue Devils before their change to formal wear. (Or have seen Rich K. sporting his North Tenors) 4. You have had Baskin-Robbins' "Drum Corps Nut" ice cream. (Or Phantom Regiment Ripple!!) 5. You hear the term "Explorer Scout" and a mental picture of Madison's uniform pre-1981 comes to mind. (That, or the "Chrome Domes") 6. You recall when Cavie fans used to swing around the neon green glow sticks. 7. You were outraged at the "Boulder Noise Controversy" 8. You said WTF when you first saw and heard marching roto-toms. 9. You said WTF when you first heard Kilts were adding females. 10. You can remember when Freelancers had those HUGE sabers. 11. You wondered "How long are X-men's capes going to be this year?". (shout out to Malibu) 12. You wondered "Are Avant Garde's unis going to be green or yellow this year?". (shout out to Bari Brian) 13. You felt pride for the whole organization when you heard that 2-7 was going to the Winter Olympics. 14. You felt like drum corps was going to #### in a handbasket when Garfield had their guard play horns (80 horns!!) or sang "Amen". 15. You felt like drum corps was going to #### in a handbasket when SCV marched bedposts. 16. You bought stock in the Blue Stars. 17. (special for Mike B., Paul M., Mitch S., Pete S. and Rich G.) You hightailed it when you saw "Ma" Gengler coming with the Chloraseptic spray. 18. You miss Color Pre's. 19. You can admit to liking when corps played the same closer over and over and over and over............................................................................ ..... THHHHHHHAT'S ALL FOLKS!!!!!!!!

sburstall
http://www.drummajor.net/Pipes/Mace/Index....OF%20THE%20MACE Something not taught to drum majors anymore. Today's drum major camps are just to teach them basic commands and how to count.
MikeD
http://www.drummajor.net/Pipes/Mace/Index....OF%20THE%20MACESomething not taught to drum majors anymore. Today's drum major camps are just to teach them basic commands and how to count. Steve, There were VERY few DM's who carried a mace "back then" as well. BTW, George Parks' UMASS band has at least one of their DM's do a mace routine. Mike

sburstall
Wow, after reading some of these "old pharts" lists, uniforms were very imaginative. They used local ideas and didn't have to rely on a uniform company.
