ACustom19
It's a simple adjustment to the rack, depending on which type of carrier you're using. With Pearl racks, you just tilt the bottom.
Euph_Dolphin
:( aww man, i never liked the matched look, and ive been told but alums that the matched sticking is what killed SCV's line in 95, but oh well, lets see what they can do, i liked the look of the tilt too
willisj10
matched applies more to the rest of the percussion world. traditional grip makes no sense at all for anything other than sling drums. the way scv used to wear their snares didn't make sense either because even though their left hands fit the angle, their right hands were then at a strange playing angle. matched is a smart move by scv, and i hope other drumlines follow suit. i remember in the late 90s when dartmouth high school won wgi with a matched grip snare line. man, were they good. the batman show? anyone? who cares what they look like. drums4u
According to the auditon info on Santa Clara's website, the snareline form the 05 season will be playing matched grip. The battery will also NOT be required to move to the bay area in late february, as they have done in the past few years.Any thoughts on how this will impact their standing as the best drumline? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> SCV made a return to match grip technique in 1994 under Lee Rudnicki, and continued on with the match grip in 1995, before going back to traditonal in 1996. To all those worrying about SCV and the direction they are taking with their drumline, please remember: Murray Gusseck is an amazing drummer and musician, one of the best percussion teachers and technicians around, a great battery arranger (especially when it comes to designing the exercise program), and MOST importantly, a person truly dedicated to the SCV organization: their traditions, their commitment to excellence, and constant innovation in the field of marching percussion. He is there to teach good percussion technique, quality of sound, musicianship, and instill kids with the values of the Santa Clara Vanguard; regardless of whether or not they march matched grip, traditonal grip, or whatever grip. The program will be just as intense, with a focus on good technique, quality of sound, and producing great music at a professional level, as always. They will be just fine. They had great success with matched grip in the 70's and 80's, and there is no reason why they can't do it again. JT76
Interesting... It always seemed kind of strange in 95 to see them use matched grip. I guess we will just have to wait and see for this year.
