  1. I know. I did a double take. I couldn't imagine them beating BD, BAC or Crown this year, much less all in one show.
  2. California is home to three other world class and seven other open class corps. Before we start blaming CA for SCV's problems, why are the other CA corps able to make it?
  3. WGI already has gone first with the novel naming of their performing units. Broken City sounds like a gag name. So does any number of the guards.
  4. This is not a fun topic to discuss, but DCI/WGI is more transparent than most other youth-based activities in terms of admitting the problem and taking action against perpetrators. As an RN who works with many abused kids, I can tell you this sort of thing happens in almost every large organization that serves adolescents and young adults. The organizations who don't allow discussion or public disclosure of abuse are the ones creating a haven for the perpetrators. Sunlight really is the best disinfectant.
  5. Show: Terrapin Station: The Music of the Grateful Dead Somebody please let me know if this has already been done. I'm not aware if it has. This show would write itself. Some much great music. Dead songs I'd love to hear on the field: Estimated Prophet U.S. Blues Alabama Getaway Uncle John's Band Friend of the Devil Picasso Moon Hell in a Bucket Dark Star China Cat Sunflower / I Know You Rider Scarlet Begonias Truckin' Terrapin Station I Need a Miracle and of course- Drums in Space percussion feature. Visual: recreate a Dead show. Everyone in Tie-dye. Somebody selling veggie burritoes (and miracles.)
  6. Congrats, PC. You did SoCal proud! Is it only a matter of time before California has four corps in finals again?
  7. Speaking of kits Ringo owns....he has a Roland TD-20 which he left in London when he was supposed to be recording on Gary Wright's Connected CD. (2011.) I'm friends with Gary's engineer, so I got a call from him, asking if Ringo could borrow my kit. Of course I said, "yes," just to be able to say that Ringo played my drums😎
  8. Nit-picky about the show: Drums should be black oyster pearl (like Ringo's kit) even though the natural wood looks nice.
  9. 2008 Blue Stars - Le Tour Huge, clean guard. Great visual program. What a way to re-enter finals.
  10. Every year I'm sure that uniforms cannot possibly get any uglier and every year I'm wrong.
  11. I love that SOA isn't pimping themselves by giving Pearl Drums free advertising on their bass drum heads. Don't get me wrong- I love Pearl, but don't believe you should be their marketing department after making you pay for their product.
  12. Ha! You called it: http://www.pearldrum.com/News/News-Item.aspx?id=625
  13. I'm excited. The merits of Pearl vs. Dynasty drums have been debated here ad nauseum, but I far prefer Pearl (especially the snares). I look forward to hearing a smokin' hot BD line on them.
  14. With Ralph Hardimon and Jeff Queen working with them, why is anyone surprised?
  15. Brasso is bad. It strips the finish. After over 30 years of cleaning cymbals, the best thing I've found is something called "Kick'N Brass". It's made by a company named Resource in Dana Point, CA. (949)240-6668. Linda McDonald (Chad Sexton's mom) from Chad Sexton's Drum City recommended this and she was right.
  16. Yes! And thanks for the great pics. I was a HUGE Seattle Imperials fan, and miss them badly. Unafraid to take chances so much fun to watch.
  17. Can anyone explain how matched grip would NOT make sense if your goal is to sound as even as possible from hand to hand?
  18. Great thread. '76 Devils '84 Garfield '93 Star '06 Phantom
  19. VK's image was tied to the surf/skate culture that thrived in Orange County. However you spin it, VK now living in Pasadena seems just wrong.
