some old corps photos

Recommended Posts

Oh, you're sweet!  I know this may be off topic but I wanted to put my Dad's picture up, 1945 Belgium.  Was one of the men who landed in Normandy.

Look at his teeth.  The night we rushed him to the hospital the ER doctors were tugging on his teeth, I said what do you think you're doing, she said I'm afraid the dentures have to come out, he may choke on them.  He didn't have dentures, and never had a cavity....he actually had these beautiful, natural uncapped teeth until the day he died.  I didn't get his teeth I can tell you that!

Anyway, because he was such a good friend of drum corps and kids in general,  and is Georgie B. Juniors Godfather (considering how many very good friends George B. had/has, this was quite an honor for him-especially where there is only 1 son), I thought it was appropriate to put him up here!

Maybe I can start a "family photo" section....

If it wasn't for him, I and many others would not have even known what drum corps was so to him I    I know, I'm not biased at all!

Wow....look at those teeth! Your dad was a handsome man Nancy! There is no mistake you ARE your dad's child! No milk man involved here! I can see your sister's resemblance in his face as well.

Thanks for sharing that! :)

Oh, you're too kind!

You don't expect someone in his shape to come home from working at 73 and die overnight.....

He's got some great company really in that big drum corps on the sky!

If I could have just 1 minute with that man to tell him how very much he was appreciated!

drmr27 said it best about my Dad in a PM, although I won't say it, if he wants to, I'd enjoy it!

LOL, that would be Carol, and I always thought of her as grown up when I marched! Didn't know her very well, though. I'm trying to remember when she aged out. I know for sure she marched in '78, but can't remember who our keyboard players were in '79 and '80. John?

Also, "Sing Sing Sing" was a bit before my time, unfortunately. Oakland played that in '76 and '77. I marched from '78 to '80.

79 a girl knicknamed Skipper and ?(could have been Mike or Nick).

80 Nick Dickman (he changed his last name in 89, but I can't rmember to what) and Mike Cassidy.

Regards,

John

I remember the keyboard players from 79 being Mike Cassidy and Nick Dickman from the Buffalo crew. I know Mike marched in 80, but I can't for the life of me remember who marched the bells......

Now I remember... it was Skipper and Nick in 79, and Mike Cassidy and Skipper in 80.

Carol Munro. I saw her today. She's playing #2 bass in Optimist Alumni.

Regards,

John Swartz

Cool, did she ever become an architech? Don't get me wrong, I didn't know her well enough for her to recognize me, I just spent an evening talking to her.

LOL! I swear to God, you're the only one (other than my husband) who's ever used that word to describe me. Thanks for making my day!

This may have caused confusion with the dance the rifle line did in 73.  Which BTW was taught by one of our soprano players who had seen the musical in NY. He was also of Jewish heritage and taught our DM Tim Moxley how to do a count off in hebrew.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA That's great! :spit:
