St_Marys64
St Mary's - can't wait for the pm - growing up in Wisconsin and listening to recordings of 67 BC had a HUGE influence on me. TO THIS DAY, no less! Sorry for the No Legs Look, computer running very slooooooow, will redo later. Shown in the photo above Snares left to right Gerry Shellmer, Paul DeDasio and Arthur Kirwan Actually in the early seventies Gerry and a few of his BC snares taught the Cardinals, formerly the St. Mary’s Cardinals. After many Nights in the Parking lots and Pubs, as well as buying them many rounds, we got to know them, and like them. One long night I believe, some one brought 1968 and we found out, the Genius of the Shellmer, System and how the rebuilding was done so smoothly in both 1965 and 1968. Traditional grip, snares and tenors so simple and so smart. As well as a lot of smart Practice Practice Practice The connection with St MARY'S goes back to the fifties Gerry, Paul, and Arthur first marched in the Crusaders and then the Princemen. Gerry did Boston, Paul did I.C. Reverie’s and Arthur did St. Mary’s, while they all were still marching in the Princemen as show in this photo. These guys were like the Founding Fathers for almost all the Great Drummers and Instructors that would follow in their footsteps. Shellmer was just always, a few steps ahead, check out his left hand and finger position. And that is what he expected, PERFECTION! Scerpella
Wrong, DanDrum line was the only section to wear red sashes prior to 1978; hornline and guard wore black. Otherwise, you are correct: 1978 was the first year the entire corps wore red sashes. MYNWA <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Whoops, those brain cells were clearly lost some years go Dan! You are right of course. I even have a photo from 77 of the drumline in their red sashes.

In order left to right: Randy Wickstrom, Mike Robinson, Tim Easton, Doug Bass, Dwayne Lewis, Wayne Saunders.Regards, John Swartz <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hey John, How are you doing? Nice to see Dwayne L. in the pic. He was a good bud of mine in the mid-80s when he lived in Madison. I haven't been in touch with him for awhile. Any Oakland vets know where I can find him? This thread is a blast. Its like old war vets getting together swaping pics and stories. Its great to see some "before" and "after" shots of some DCP folk here. And, thank you St. Mary for posting pics and commentary about DC waaaaay back in the day. Keep it comin!

ffernbus3
Trouble posting pics here, but here's me in 1966. Lakewood, CA, Ambassadors. Just before my 66 All American Judging Assn. Bari Individuals gig: scoring error knocked me off the podium and into 4th place. http://mellom007.tripod.com/Scrapbook2001/ambassadors.html courtesy of Munson Chan's fine history of California drum corps: He's just about as old as California drum corps!, too! Go Renegades! A few months later I was an Anaheim Kingsmen, being tutored by Rocco, Pete Emmons and Fred Sanford.
