Very good Mike, only a couple of corrections. When the words to "Garbarina" were first put together by 4 members of the Corps while on their way to a contest in Philadelphia back around 1951-52 when "Oklahoma" was all the rage on Broadway, the phrase was:

"We're from New York,

and we will always sing "OUR" praises loud and clear."

Another phrase that has been corrupted over the course of time is:

"Our drum line's the best in the land

and our horn line, it plays "JUST" as grand."

These corrections were told to me by Bill Boerner back in 1993 during one of the Skyliner Alumni Chorus rehearsals. I'm not sure if Bill was one of the 4 people in the car that day when the words were put together, but I DO know that one of them was a gentleman by the name of Bobby Booth who was a charter member of Garbarina. He later married a girl from Philly, moved down there and joined Archie where he spent the rest of his Drum Corps career.

I guess everyone here is to young to remember the Cabs song sung to the tune of "Lady of Spain".

Hawthorne you gay caballero,

Hawthorne with greasy sombrero,

Bell bottom trousers don't fit,

Hawthorne you big bag of ****.

Solo sopranos are cracking,

Drums with talent are lacking,

Hawthorne you big bunch of fools,

Hawthorne you play with you tools.

And what of the Reilly Raiders.

Have you seen the Reilly Raiders,

Have you seen their latest capers,

As they dance and prance,

Around the God ###### field.

Their a bunch of ballerinas,

and you'll know when you have seen,

A bunch of crazy mixed up kids,

That simply suck.

Oh their hornline is so blasty,

And their drummers are so nasty,

That they look and sound like ####.

(Forgot the next stanza)

Let them go right on a dancing,

Not a soul at all is listening,

While the fans are wildly cheering for the

MUS-KE-TEERS!!!!

Yes, this song was originally sung by Archie, NOT the Skyliners. But I pretty sure Swan won't let you believe that.

Thanks for the update! Cabs song made me laugh so much, I think my fellow employees are looking for the men in white jackets again. They just don't get this drum corps thing. :P

Looking for the lyrics for a song called "Two Ton Tessie" that the Thunderbirds would sing, with the crowd grunting loudly as the song wound on...

Also the Lyrics for "Granny's Biscuit Batter" song, which Drew Rosenberger from the Westshoremen would sing.

Also a dare to the Cavalier Cadet people to post their songs about the Kilties. ^0^

And of course, the "End of the Month" song.... Ben, I remember the Tiger Rag, and I taught the song a couple of days ago to the guys at work. We were damnadably bored. B)

So, anyone from the T-Birds got the lyrics for "Two Ton Tessie" around? hope so. a Real Classic.

I found it all undah da

Well, not everyone is too young. But those are not quite the words I remember. And since I was taught the song by none other than Ralph Silverbrand (not kidding, it was at an after contest party in '66 or '67 - as a lad of 19 or so I was really impressed that he just came up to us and didn't act the big deal), I'll claim these are the "official" lyrics.

Hawthorne you gay caballeros,

Dressed in your greasy sombreros,

Bell bottom trousers don't fit,

Oh, what a big bag of s***. (vibrato on the s***)

Solo sopranos are cracking,

Drummers with talent you’re lacking,

Blast off your a** you old fools,

(retardando) Hawthorne you play with your tools.

Rump, rump, rump,

Up your … (performed at a high mark time)

Hello Jim,

Well, I would say that since I sang that song on I can't for the life of me tell over the course of how many years, it was the Archer-Epler Musketeers that came up with the lyrics. Since it is their lyrics that I have sung with them over the course of those many years, and the lyrics that I initially posted are the exact lyrics that I have sung with Archie (as well as the Skyliners), I claim my lyrics to be the "official" lyrics. Dang, just missed asking Drew by a few weeks as he's in Westshoremen Alumni. Very funny guy so this song should be good.

While back I posted about a friend who went to an after show party and was floored by the females singing along. FINALLY remembered the song was "Come And Sit On My Face If You Love Me" (tune of "Red River Valley"). I've heard of the song but never heard it. Have a feeling there would be a lot of ####s if it got posted *sigh*.

What Chris said!

In all my years in drum corps, I have never heard a corps-song repertoire that can match that of the Sunrisers. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your point of view!!!), a lot of the Sun stuff is either:

1) definitely not for the faint of heart, or:

2) highly self-incriminating.    ^0^

Then there were the songs we made up about fellow members of our own corps. Many of them were even more brutal than the ones about other corps.  B)

Fran

Come on,Fran.....

MacNamara's Band!!!! (by John Skarnzinski) You mean that wasn't pure LOVE? (and after all these years,I thought you guys sung that to me on acounta da love)

Tony ;-)

To ANY Sunrisers reading this: I did NOT teach Bobo to Jerome, we merely sang it once for him.

Living on the edge?

No additions from me.

Honest to God, and I don't want to sound like a wet blanket here, it would be nice if the "Sun Songbook" was kept OFF this thread.  Too much really brutal stuff. (Very funny, yet brutal!!)

I'm not sure the current version of the Sunrisers would appreciate having the corps' old "dirty laundry" aired in public.

Sun alums, do the current corps a favor: Think before you post here.

Fran

Hey Fran,I'm thinking!! (and I agree, most of Sun's songs should NOT be posted,on ANY public forum) (we'd all get kicked out)

Tony
