I'm curious that you're claiming that Cavvies were "lower than their competition" that year, and yet you can't recall just who the competition was.

And furthermore, I seem to recall Cavvies winning just about every caption that year and notching a few 20's in the process (and of course how deserved those are has been argued about ad naseum in the past)

I was there. I remember that the horn line played poorly.

For that matter I would not have given Madison '88 the title over the Blue Devils that year because of the way they played that night as well. That title was decided the night before at headquarters.

Here is the thing...

Most of the time the best corps wins. Hands down. Yet, there have been a few stinker final performances that were overlooked. I'm not talking about the best show. That would be even more of a hot topic.

I do seem to remember that the Freelancers enjoyed bumping and bruising other corps old school style back in the late 80's
