Now that singing has become "acceptable"

Recommended Posts

Accoustic singing is acceptable.

I'm not sure we've all accepted amped singing.

I didn't think a professional performer, even though the correct age, is legal? Do they still have rules about professionals?

Was there ever?

I bet lots of members are paid musicians in some way or another...though not on the same scale we are talking about.

Okay, I've got to offer a correction here. I was at the seminar in Orlando in January last year when this whole thing got started. George gave a PowerPoint presentation that included the "slide" that won't go away. It stated, "Drum corps is marching band." It was reported as such in Drum Corps World that way without properly attibuting the context in which it was presented.

George was making the point that we need to always try to focus the public on what we are...our "brand identity," if you will. He then mentioned that to many people who didn't know any better, drum corps was marching band. That's when the slide appeared.

George did not advocate that comparison. He was clearly just pointing out the perception and encouraging us to be aware of such when we tried to market ourselves to the public.

And from that one article in Drum Corps World and at least a few misquoted e-mails sent out from the seminar, the "legend" got born that George really does believe drum corps and marching band is the same.

If I knew you were misquoted in some capacity, I would also come to your defense.

Peace.

This is all true and I don't use that quote 'against' George anymore. However, he is working, harder than any other, to turn drum corps into marching band. It is his vision and he doesn't care who, or how many object. He has said so.

I've been misqouted many times, you haven't rushed to my defense when i've been critical of DCI :P

You can always be depended upon to come to your own defense with a vigor that doesn't require back-up. :)

I'm curious with the whining about the drumspeak...

If there was an Internet in 1984, would you all have crucified VK's drum line for their 32 count intro to their drum solo that year? "Choo choo chaaa....digga dat!"

Or Freelancers for their beautiful sung intro to "With You I'm Born Again"?

Yeah Steph - what Lance said!  I challenge you to name 10 people here who said they wanted it called band. :::crickets:::

Geez, there you go again...I don't stay on the planet 24/7 I do have other things in my life you know as far as your.:crickets: comment this is the first time I've seen this post! :)

Okay I was referencing to the thread that I started about the "Extreme Marching Band" and where everyone was telling us to "get over it"..blah, blah, blah...and that it is BAND, but let me go pull that up for you so you can "see" what I was talking about..

I didn't say they "wanted" it to be called band, I was saying "they" claim "that's what it is anyway"? RIGHT?

You sure are "Literal" where I am concerned aren't you? :sshh:

Okay here is the "topic" I was referencing about the folks that say it "is" band etc..etc...EMB

No. The proper quote is:

What's in a name? That which we call a rose

By any other name would smell as sweet.

What it means is precisely the opposite of your intent. It means the name itself doesn't matter. Remember Juliet is saying that had Romeo only had another family name, this love of theirs wouldn't be so cursed. She even precedes that famous line with one that would serve us well in the corps/band discussion:

'Tis but thy name that is my enemy.

HH

I know what it means, thanks for the English Lit lesson...I was being facetious...geez some of y'all... :worthy: :sshh:

By the same token, what would prevent a corps from hiring an extra-terrestial being from providing a self-generated light show via lights in its head, provided we can prove the ET is less than 22 years-old? Would that be fair to corps that don't have access to their own extra-terrestial beings? And what if one of their years is two of our years? Is there any rule in place that says the under-22 years rule has to be Earth years? I tell you, this sort of thing could destroy the spirit of drum corps as we know it. I say we must say "no" to ETs performing in drum corps...especially if they put on self-generated light shows. Are you with me?

Gee thanks a whole lot Mike. My computer is shorting out on account of you.

***dog gonnit I need to stop drinking soda when I'm on the cumputer because you never know when it might shoot out your mouth (and nose) and go everywhere***
