smj02 Posted January 17, 2006 Share Posted January 17, 2006 Well, we are doing Whiplash (written by Hank Levy for D.E.) at Music City Legend this year and we are planning on keeping it as true as possible. Our show is actually called "A Time For A Change" and is all odd time meters. If you get the chance, check it out sometime this summer (slightly off topic I know but I have to throw a shameless plug in everyonce and a while) Check. I'll be at DCA prelims. Oh wait...we all looked like that back then. Uhhhh... Well, I was the opening soprano soloist (short guy), follow me on the vid from that point on I guess. there were a lot of us hornline pitsters that year. IMO, 27's 1981 version of "Niner -Two" is the urtext, and is startlingly faithful to the original Ellis Orchestra version. The Knights played "Whiplash" in 83, my rookie season, and it kicked much azz. Topic? BD's horns were great in 93, but not as good as 91 or 88, which is the best ever. Drums/visual, not so much. I was in the colorguard (I didn't drop at finals). In fact, I think there is a close up of me doing the back bend move with my dance partner on the DVD. Looks like the guard had a rough run, and some of the visual package looked like it could have used some cleaning to really hang with the top 3 that year, but from a strictly brass standpoint... i thought it was great! Thats such a different style for them from the last... decade? but i really loved it. any insights about that year from those of you who wernt 11 years old when it was 1993 like me? hehe... The 1993 BD brassline (As stated by many) was nothing short of awesome. I had the great fortune of seeing them live that year. You could hear every brass part reeaal well.......what power. The 93 line was a sign of things to come for them (AKA 94) Still.....1986 will remain my favorite junior corps show of all time.....hope people will vote for it to show in @ the movies in April..... :) :) I was 21 in 1993.......
