mjm724
Colby marched 98, 99, and 00. He had a ring attached to the bell of his mellophone so he could hold it up with his thumb and pinky finger and play with the other three fingers. When the hornline did pushups, he did them on his one good arm. Needless to say, his good arm was twice the size of anybody elses. There was no special treatment, and he was held to the same high standard as the rest of the group. I hear that his rookie year was extreemly diffacult for him, but he was a strong leader in the 99 and 00 hornline when I marched. BK continues to march trail on the left arm today. He also marched in 97.
Medeabrass
Forgive me if this has been said already but there was a blucoats tenor in '90 or '91 who lost part or all of his foot in the first Gulf War. There was a vignette on him and it was pretty amazing how he fought through the pain.

bluecoats88
Yes John marched in 1991 after losing half a foot and having schrapnel in his other leg. I marched with john in 1987 & 1988. in 1986 our 6th bass was deaf (he wore hearing aids but it didn't help much) Everytime the staff would stop us in the middle of practice, if he didn't see anyone cut the corps off he'd keep playing not realizing everyone else stopped until someone tapped him on the shoulder. didn't happen often. Also the bluecoats had a soprano player in 1990 whose arms basically ended at his elbows. I didn't march that year, but I believe he had somthing that resembled hands and fingers where his elbows would have been. It wasn't that noticeable except during horn visuals because his arms didn't go very far from his body. And I know I marched with more than a couple people who didn't have a brain.... elphaba01
Didn't the Ct Hurcs DM lose an arm in a car accident? This had to be early-mid 80's, I think. I know I saw him in uniform post-accident. "Senior Disabilities": The Hurricanes drum major that lost his arm is Mr Billy Duquette. He continued as DM and later corps director of the Hurcs and was one of the original co-directors of the Park City Pride Alumni Corps. There are a GREAT number of wonderfull performers in the "All Ages" and "Alumni" coprs arenas, who "Press On" with their "Hobby" despite physical limitations. At the Wildwood standstill a few years back, the New York Skyliners wheeled out a "Body" on a hospital gurney, which "Rose from the Dead" to perform with the corps. He is one of the "Original Gabarina" founding members from the mid 1940s, and "Still Going Strong". Elphaba WWW
