markdewine
Just for the sake of conversation... People who have marched in Drum Corps since, let's say 2000... What will they think of the activity, if- All instruments are equipped with wireless microphones... that feed to a mixer board... hooked up to giant speakers. And members float around on small individual air cushion vehicles... that are pre-programmed to go... where a computer tells them to go. And half the visual score comes from... the effective use of a "light show." Where you can see the show live... on the internet. Therefore,... why show up live and in person. Because... the judging will all be handled by... computer sensors (less chance for error). Etc., etc., etc. What concepts might be really great? Which ones would you not like to see? Insert your visions of the future, and..... HAVE FUN !!! P.S.- "Play nice." b**bs b**bs b**bs
Toby
What's with the rocketpacks?
markdewine
Toby- Good idea ! A rocket-pak in addition to the air cushion vehicle ! Then no one has to march. Technology can do it for them. :P
mwpercussion14
I've always wanted drums that float in mid-air to take all that weight off. :P
markdewine
I'm workin' on the floating drum thing, as we speak. So far, the best I can come up with is paying someone else to carry it for you. b**bs (They have a tendancy to get in the way !) Hey, have seen drums with lights in them, that flash to the drumming ! Wait... I've got it ! Put the drum on a stand...then put the stand on the ACV. "Yeah, THAT"S the ticket!" B)
jonnyboy
Most likey the only the big 7 (Blue Devil Congomerates, Star of Texas, Crossmen, North Star, Yokohama Scouts, Kilgrove Kilties Combined Corps and the Surf Cadets of the Mid Atlantic Region) will have the advancments you speak of. All sponsored by Honda of Course. Edit: The real debate will be which "Marching Arts" judging software to use. MBoo "Judge not least yee be Judged" version 3.4, Microsofts "Hoppy's Green Shirts" for PC version 2.9, or Apple Computers "6-12 Panel Judging" complete with settings for 1972-2025 rules and powered by Simms Judging Personalities Plus with Holographic Cababilities. JimF-LowBari
The old phartes will be saying : "THAT AIN'T DRUM CORPS!!!" Well except for MikeD :P :P Edited March 30, 2006 by JimF-xWSMBari
markdewine
JimF-xWSMBari- This is meant to be a tongue-in-cheek look at the future of Drum Corps. A humorous comparison to the way us old pharts view drum corps today. That's all. B)

Back in the late 1970s either DCN or DCW came up with a few ideas of corps future. It was a comic book (honest) with some really wild stories in it. Wish I would have bought a copy. All I can remember is.... Corps hiring professional performers. And then trading them like MLB and the NFL.... I'll give you two bass drummers for a lead sop. No judges, computerized radar systems check for drill errors (written during the tic era) The professional marchers were fired and replaced with androids. This led to unemotional shows and a riot when <can't remember full story>.......
