Bluecoats 1987, 1988 <- Snare Drum-to-Drum and adding snares as the feature goes on in Autumn Leaves....

My man, I'm not sure what you're smokin'. I was in those lines and I've always been embarrassed with those drum-to-drum parts. VK's were much cooler those years. Oh wait, but we moved while playing in '88, that has to count for something. :grouphug: Lame!

I think it would be really cool to be able to get all of these great solos on one CD. I don't think I've ever heard Stone Ground Seven but I've heard ABOUT it for years and would really love to hear it, along with the rest of them.

1973 Rochester crusaders played a very long solo that always got a great crowd reaction

There's always the late 50's and early 60's Reilly Raider solo's, long, hard with lots of balls

thanks! we are trying to put out a higher quality product, give us a little time...

73 Crusaders? I liked '72 will have to check 73

aside from those already mentioned

old school:

77 Freelancers

81 27th Lancers during Niner-Two (Jack Cash wrote I think?)

82 Crossmen helicopter singles (solo & last riff in show)

83 Lancers Running Set (before it got hosed, Jack Cash wrote)

84 or 85 SCV with high and low sets of tenors (forget year)

Bridgemen? rezz da tezz, huzz gi duzz however you say it

New School:

06 Devils, nice writing in show, cool tricks like fake singles

05 Pacific Crest had nice writing too, impressed in the lot

Id have to go back and listen, Cadets, Cavies, Devils, Vanguard, Phantom have had awesome perc features

Blue Devils 1984- "Karn Evil 9." So badazz.

Phantom 1978- "Flight of the Bumblebee." Can you say mallets?

SCV 1980- "Stone Ground Seven." Everybody who says this is a mold-breaker is absolutely right. The early-season version with the horn parts is even cooler.

Defenders 1982-"Medieval Overture"-Love it. Just love it. Great keyboard section.

Bridgemen 82-"Black Market/Juggler"-Ooosss.

You wrote that Defenders 82 is a good solo. Judging by your other picks and your short review of the Defenders' solo, I would like to hear it. I went to dci.org and they didn't place in the top 12 so it seems can't listen to it on dci.org under the paid subscription plan. Might you know a youtube link or something to this solo?

Sadly, I don't know enough old stuff...

but probably my most absolute favorite drum solo from the "new" era (not the show, haha) would have to be Crossmen 2001. They're having a ball when they're playing it...you can hear it in their playing, as well as crowd response.
