raphael18
During corps history night, we got more than a little in depth about 98-99, and we (heck, a few people were still in the corps) were really were blown away by how close it got, and the dedication that people had shown to keep it all together. Sometimes, if you keep a strong exterior people don't realize how close it is getting inside. SUTA to all of you that put up with some crap off the field to keep the corps on it

At what time this year has Phantom beaten the Cavaliers in the GE caption? You can't say their GE is ahead until they come out above Cavies head to head... pr82292
The down years began when Dan Farrell "retired" as program coordinator. The person that took over that title was not nearly as good at the job as Dan is. The climb back to the top began when Dan retook that position. There were a lot of problems with the productions Regiment presented during those late 90's years. Nothing against Bill Peterson but he was simply unable to keep the program at the level that we have come to expect from PR
Matt_S
they're ahead whether head to head or not. recaps show it. i doubt they'll waiver much by allentown... The only recap that matters is the recap from San Antonio, where both corps were judged under the same conditions, including the same judges. Cavaliers took GE and Visual head to head, and lost music by only .075.
Phansouth
Not terribly often...(these are all just in my opinion, of course) 1987-1988-1989 1993-1994 1996-1997 2005-2006 Some people will argue that the 1988 show doesn't belong in there, but I love it. I think it is severely underrated. Definitely. That drill was one of Brazale's best. I don't understand how it was sixth with that hornline and high guard. Hmm.. let's see.. maybe you need a little help understanding the point Mitch was actually making. Let's review: DonPRBari said (in reference to the "doctrinal emphasis" Cavaliers seem to put on GE in comparison to the "doctrinal emphasis" Regiment seems to put on music): (DonPRBari @ Jul 30 2006, 02:36 PM) It may not be a doctrine, but it is a philosophy that Cavaliers demonstrate through their productions year after year. Just as the Regiment demonstrates a philosophy that music has a postition of primacy above the visual. I think what grates on many Regiment supporters is that many others (often including the judging community) do not see these two philosophies and the weaknesses they create in both corps equally. The Cavaliers are often given a pass on having a less compelling musical program while the Regiment is rarely given a pass on having a less compelling visual program. If the situation were reversed the Cavaliers would have every right and plenty of reason to complain. To which Mitch replied (in reference to where emphasis is likely going to make the most impact on whether you win or not): Not sure I understand this post. Visual = 30.00 points GE = 40.00 points Music = 30.00 points Seems like the Cavaliers know what their doing. So... in conclusion.. Mitch was saying based on how the scoring system is set up to reward shows, a teaching philosophy that leans more heavily on GE is likely to reap more rewards than a teaching philosophy that doesn't. Does that help you out? :)
