Lance
Amen... SCV, Cadets - two great drum corps had pretty disasterous problems during performances related to electricity this year. If only we could get a rule change banning rain, something that has resulted in lots of disasters as well. If occassional equipment malfunctions/mess-ups (wardrobe malfunctions...not just Janet Jackson has had these problems, they've happened in drum corps, hmmmm) in performance are justification for getting rid of something, then we need to get rid of uniforms, rifles, flags, sabres, horns, feet, drums... mobrien
If only we could get a rule change banning rain, something that has resulted in lots of disasters as well. Rain doesn't happen because God hasn't figured out how to properly mix the atmosphere or is using substandard clouds. :P

It's justification for improving what we do have to the same high standards that we give to rifles, flags, sabres, horns, drums, etc. Asking for proper/professional utilization is a long way from asking for a ban. :)

Those aren't performance issues, Lance. Those are technical issues. Rain happens, and it's randomly equal and slick. Electrical problems are created because in 2005, it was allowed. I appreciate your argument, but of the 135 kids that were for SCV, for example, did nothing to deserve their amplification fate. Same for the 135 of The Cadets... it wasn't a dropped rifle, a missed note, or a tick. This was a machine that while generally is designed to help backfired. Amplification equipment is as reliable as its setup, and this year it wasn't very reliable. It's unfortunate, but that's the reality. It's outdoors, it's not 100% reliable, and you had 270 kids get snakebites this year.

Latrobe's Finest
I hope this doesn't pass for a couple reasons: One, because drum corps is not WGI/indoor drumline etc. Why cant we let WGI do its own thing with the indoor activity and DCI do the drum corps? Just because WGI has electronics does not mean that we need to incorporate electronic instruments on the football field-thats what high school bands do. Secondly, this rule, as well as the 150 member limit rule, will create another divide between D-I corps. The only corps that will be able to get that magical 150 (and have a legit shot at finals) will be the current power corps. All other corps will still struggle for membership which will keep them at the bottom of the pack (which then hurts the chances that they will get membership the next year etc.) Some corps will be able to purchase and use this new equipment which may or may not help their show and other corps will not and they will get peanizled (sp) for it. I think that certain corps directors are bluring the line between the marching activities. Let drum corps be drum corps, let WGI be WGI and let band be band. No problem with 3 unique activities. What would the amp equivalent be of a breach in the high standards we expect from the things you mentioned, say a dropped rifle or sabre, or out of tune trumpet line, or a marching collision? megan_marie15
this is a direct quote from his proposal, if anyone is wondering where he's going with it eventually: "i have prayed in vain for the sound of a saxophone in a grand jazz ballad..." ekleve
Perhaps George should have edited this proposal a bit more since previous times he submitted it. Since amplification is already legal, there are no problems hearing steal drums, conga drums, or any other percussion instruments for that matter. The Bluecoats proved that these past couple of seasons.
