Why not? They can just keep going down that road. They will eventually have to be allowed to fully realize the goal of summer marching band. After all, can't we use the same excuse that has been used to sell so many other recent changes? That being that they are already being used in high school and college marching bands?

My high school had them. My vote is a definite NO.

Your picture of the sousaphone player in the thread isn't exactly a vote-getter, either.

Maybe if you had a pretty girl in a bikini holding a sousaphone, I may have at least gave it a "maybe". :P

Sex-Sousas?

I voted no. But I would have no problem with allowing these. Its a Marching Trombone. Sounds similar to a slide tenor trombone but much easier to march at fast tempos with.

actually these would be allowed... just thought you'd want to know

Heck no at all. Now, I don't happen to despise sousaphones--heck, the vast majority of the money I take in on gigs comes from playing on sousaphone, as you can see by my avatar--but they do not belong in drum corps.

Back in 2003, there was a new corps - I think it was Eklipse from Kentucky - that used Sousaphones in the first show or two of the year because they did not have contras available.

I saw that show... It just looked wrong.

As another tuba player who has played both and taught bands that use both Sousaphones and bellfront tubas, I have to say NO.

The sousaphones are a nightmare (tuning bits, etc) compared to a well made bellfront.

I voted no.

Yeah, it'll be easier for smaller corps to borrow sousa's but so many bands are using convertable tubas now. Some bands use Sousa but have concert tubas that are convertable to shoulder tubas.

Oh.... and one of the bands I teach is looking to kill two birds with one stone. Replace the concert tubas and marching sousas by buying convertable tubas... Anyone got a lead. Send me a message.

Why not. I mean come on.. after you add electronics and mic'd singers what difference is it really going to make. Vote YES on the big ole Sousaphone with the matching cover.. you can have one that has a big BD on it.. and a check this out.. the Cadets could have covered thiers like psychedllic flowers to go with last years show.

I won't be around to see it so GO FOR IT!!! :P
