Drum Corps Classics

Recommended Posts

So I was just wondering to myself as I spent the day snowed in with my wife...

What are your all-time favorite drum corps tunes. I mean individual pieces. So don't tell me you like '94 Devils. I want to know what SONGS everyone considers their all-time favorites / drum corps classics. The idea is junior corps, senior corps, whatever. ANY song(s) in the vast history of the activity that you consider the epitomy of what drum corps is.

HAVE AT IT!

Several tunes from the Balance in Blue quickly come to mind for me:

Sylvia

Adagio for Strings

Farandole

Russian Christmas Music

Festive Overture

Novorrosik Chimes (Fire of Eternal Glory)

I'm sure there are more from farther back that I'm forgetting pre-coffee!

Kilties - Auld Lang Syne

SCV - Russian Christmas Music

Sky - NY NY

Brigs - If ever I see your face (only played one season, but WOW, what an arrangement!)

27th Lancers - Danny Boy

Bucs - Festive Overture

Westshore - Love for Sale

Bayonne - Big Noise

There is alot that the Cabs have played through the years that I like, but I don't know the names of the tunes.

Just to name a few

Some favorites might include;

Man of La Mancha

Flamenco Cha Cha

California Dreaming

Tenement Symphony

Brazil

Rampart Street Parade

Elk's Parade

Fire of Eternal Glory

A Place to Stand (Ontario)

Stars and Stripes Forever

What about the dogs? Those horrible pieces they MADE you play against your better judgement? Any terrible tunes that just didn't work out for drum corps? I often thought that you could always tell the piece a corps loved to play as against one that they hated to play...

Going back aways:

Sunrisers "Joker"

Cabelleros "Rumps"

Skyliners "Elk's Parade"

Hurricanes "Tropical Heat Wave"

Hurricanes "Stormy Weather"

Almost all Final Fanfares from the Corps in the Sixties brought goosebumps.......

What Nat said!!!!

Other Sunriser faves of mine: Evergreen, Procession Of The Nobles, Come Follow The Band, Folk Song Suite, An American In Paris, among others.

Skyliners' "Little Ol' New York" might very well be my all-time favorite opener..... or off-the-line, as we called it back in the day. :)

Archer Epler- Lord and Master, South Rampart Street Parade

Dating myself...

Sunrisers: Clair de Lune and Prelude to the Lords Prayer (63-64)

Skyliners: Tenement Symphony (62?)

Princemen: Bie Mir Bist Du Shein (61-62)

Cabs: 1962 entire show

Crappy memory - there are tons more that aren't coming to me at the moment:(

Agree on Archies Lord and Master, though.
