For the years I marched (1967-1978) I went with SCV as my first pick. They were our "sister corps" and 27th and Clara had a huge mutual respect for each other and housed each other for a couple of years (aaaaah! a hot meal and a real bed!!!!)

Would also have loved to have marched (in no particular order):

Madison

Blue Devils

Phantom

Bridgemen

Troopers

Des Plaines Vanguard

Belleville Black Knights

Muchachos

i went with madison but then thought about the years i marched and scv was the other place i would liked to have marched at that time. truth is, i think the 27th Lancers may have been the only corps in my time that would have done for me and my brother what they did. even then, i'm sure it wasn't too common for top 12 drum corps to take two teenagers without any experience and mold them into pretty decent marchers and horn players.

I voted for SCV who have exuded class since they began BUT I voted for SCV only because Anehiem was not on the list. I don't think I was ever tall enough to march with Anehiem though. Their drum line all looked like they were 6'-3" or taller.

I know some of my Freelancer friends would die reading this, but I always liked BD. I also voted for them since they're a little under represented on the poll.

BTW, why didn't Freelancers make the list? It's only been 15 years since we last made finals. :P j/k

SCV would be a close second.

For my time period of 1980-1986, my overall winner that I voted for is BD, followed by Cadets, Suncoast, Bridgemen, Madison, and Phantom.

By individual year (and in order of preference):

1980 - BD, Bridgemen, Madison

1981 - BD, Madison

1982 - BD (that would have been a TOTAL blast!), Phantom, Cadets, Madison

1983 - BD, Suncoast

1984 - Cadets (would have been extremely thrilled to be part of this!), BD, Suncoast, Madison

1985 - Suncoast, Cadets, first 2/3 of BD (ha!)

1986 - SCV, Sky Ryders (and I had the chance and passed it up), BD, Suncoast

Added:

Kingsmen

Star of Indiana

Muchachos

Freelancers

No question for me: SCV.

Saw them for the first time while I was on tour as a rookie with the Houston Nighthawks in 1983. I can't even begin to describe how this experience influenced me, then and now.
