raphael18
The "Summer of" thing is just for the shirts, the actual show titles are not actual known or announced in that way.
usmpiano
BECAUSE SOME CORPS DONT GET TO GO TO IT and every corps should. i miss the pre-show-catered dinner (AMAZING), in addition to some of the specific people that help host the event. :) Ah yes...the Roman Belly Feast...talked about for many weeks...and it actually lived up to the hype! Maestro767
Here's an intersting concept: actually arrange a show with themes and music ACTUALLY from ancient Rome? (think outside the box here!)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Roman_music Ottorino Respighi wrote several suites titled "Ancient Airs and Dances." The third movement of the second suite is terrific.
Galen
A poster on the 98 Phantom thread mentioned that he/she wasn't happy to see that Phantom was going to be performing Pines of Rome in 1998. I'm not sure that I agree with this, but I would say that PR's arrangements that year were lacking (particularly compared to some of the great arrangements they've had over the years).So... what is the perfect show featuring Rome-inspired music? And don't say "Star 1991." That's too easy. I think it'd be tough to do a Rome show and not touch Pines of Rome... How about something like this (I'm using this for my fantasy corps show this summer- WHICH everybody can participate in by going to this forum here: http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/inde...p?showforum=63) Kosmos presents... The Last Days of Pompeii Selections include: Scene 1: The Spectacle. Music: Triumph of Rome ('82 Phantom opener) Scene 2: The, er, "dinner party". Music: Bachannale ('91 Phantom closer) Scene 3: Destruction of Pompeii. Music: Vesuvius (Ticheli) Scene 4: Pompeii Rediscovered. Music: Festae Romae ('91 Star) There- didn't even touch "Pines" B)
Just A Plain Old Fan
Am I the only one that really entered this thread thinking it was going to be about Rome, NY? "Remember when it rained for 3 days straight and we had the best roast beef dinner ever, and the crowd loved us that night, too? Man, that was 'the perfect Rome show!'" defrabulator55
I know we aren't suppose to say the "B" word on here but Key Poulan wrote a Roman show that made the rounds through the band circuit a few years ago. It was really good.
zachariaswmb
Ah yes...the Roman Belly Feast...talked about for many weeks...and it actually lived up to the hype! Indeed. We were fed like royalty there! It was so delicious and wonderful that we didn't know what to do with ourselves.
mellodramatic
And don't say "Star 1991." That's too easy. Good man. Good attitude.
Hrothgar15
Hrothgar, go march some D3 somewhere so you have a clue about what I said. Period. Maybe you could answer my question and stop making irrelevant suggestions?
silvertrombone
You caused Colts '99 to come to mind, by the way. Why do you say that? I wasn't involved so I don't know the show.
