dr atomic
I'm not really a fan of the early 20th century Russian school save for a few of Shosty's works (mostly the String quartets) to be quite honest, but it works for drum corps so this should be a good show. Khatch was a pretty great composer, I don't know this one guy's bagging on him.
year1buick
My take on it was that the guy was simply not digging the music choice. Maybe I need to go back and re-read what he wrote. In response to the rest of what you said, you make some good points. In essence, it is no different from many of my responses in those types of threads. I guess I just get tired of the disparity in how and for whom some people support corps and the activity in general. My apologies for jumping to conclusions. No problem--I feel the same way. It's just a matter if differing perspectives sometimes. I think this activity (and forum) could be so much more fun if more people concentrated on what they like, and worried less about what other people like. I don't necessarily mean we should take away the sense of competition (or good-natured, rivalry) but, at the same time, there comes a point where it just sucks the fun right out it. (For me, at least.)
PRPhan4ever
Okay, Ok !!! Lets get back to the focus of the thread! Peopl will be peopl and have their own personalities and opinions! The topic at hand is how will Regiment field this show "AGAIN".... considering the activity of TODAY........ man, what could Rennick(s) write for that pit/ensemble..... OMG ! We thought Vespertine was great? Or the ballad of Ave? WOW... I think the staff is gonna have a blast and so will I listening/watching this show, AND it's music (whatever they choose) evolve! dbc03
I'm going to laugh really hard if this show has absolutely nothing to do with the old Spartacus show. Oh the DCP meltdown that would occur :P

Heh, had to bring that up, dintcha? (The topic, I mean. :P ) Well, if you insist... I think it'll be big, loud and a helluva lot of fun to watch. (Very deep, I know...) At first, I thought "Please, not another 92." (We visited a previous theme that year too...) Then I thought, "Who cares about placement, they're bringing back freakin Spartacus!" This is a decade later, with a staff and corps that is consistently coming up with great things--this will be too, I'm sure.

Upon further reflection, that might not be so safe an assumption. (I agree with others; they'll likely sprinkle it with other music.) Still, I think a general fear of mass rioting will prevent them from forsaking the Khachaturian alltogether.
CHRISP
I saw Phantom on tour many times in 81 and less in 82. What they did back then was pretty amazing. I am definitely looking forward to seeing what they can do now with today's instrumentation, pit, movement and color guard.
Sutasaurus
Lastly, I don't understand your use of logic. Since I think Spartacus is boring, that equates me as someone who lacks necessary experience to appreciate it? Huh? Also, I don't quite follow how a disagreement in preference and opinion makes me a vapid, trend-following consumer? Simply put, I don't like Spartacus. I don't understand how that makes me stupid. Fanatic..no one called you stupid. Enjoy your hot dogs this summer while the rest of us enjoy Spartacus.
