thirdcoast Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 5 posts in and no mention of 1984 Garfield? What's happened to the DCP I used to know? Dekalb 1982... what a night to be a spectator! 84 Garfield one of the best ever! IMO. Quote
glory Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 OK, relax the rules a bit. The point was to see what people remembered most. As it turns out, Greenblue's original hypothesis seems to be holding true. Often and throughout DCI history, the most memorable shows are often NOT the ones who win. Not always, but often. I suppose those of us (myself definitely included) who continue getting upset by the judges' scores would do well to keep this in mind. You were expecting unanimity? Putting aside that "memorable" isn't a criterium for success, that people select "memorable" choices for all kinds of reasons and that many people picked more than one in a year, this thread still shows overwhelming endorsement of the judges' No. 1 pick. That by the way is consistent with other DCP threads in which posters generally agreed with the champion selected. We harp on the judges all the time. We say this corps and that corps should have been higher. The truth, however, is such criticism works in the abstract better than in practice. The truth is we tend to agree with the judges more than we disagree. HH Quote
TRacer Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 (edited) 1994-- 27th Lancers Alumni Corps (marched whole show including the famed pinwheel, full uniform-- I wish I'd lived on the East Coast at the time as I would have done this in a heartbeat!!) 2006-- Madison Reunion Project 2007-- Kingsmen Alumni Corps (marched a whole field show based on '72, full uniform, had 30 seconds of running drill to show the kids that, yup, old pharts can do it) Edited September 22, 2011 by TRacer 1 Quote
Corbin Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 (edited) 1990 was the first year I marched drum corps so the most memorable shows to me are from the 1989 year, especially SCV, Cadets, Blue Devils (especially "You Gotta Try"), and Phantom Regiment (they're show inspired me to buy the Boston Pops 1972 recording of Dvorak's New World Symphony. I still have this CD and play it often). Edited September 22, 2011 by Corbin Quote
archbananas Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Hmm let's see. 2011 - Blue Devils (my favorite blue devils show) and Academy (oh man. Loved everything) 2010 - Bluecoats 2009 - 3 way tie between Carolina Crown,BD, and SCV. All amazing shows that I can listen to for hours. (My HS band actually played Ballet for Martha, so even more of a connection is felt) 2008 - Mandarins (I played two of the pieces they used in concert band, so it sticks out to me) and Blue Devils (I actually really liked that show.) 2007 - Cadets and Phantom Regiment. (Cadets 2007 is one of the most B.A. Shows i have ever seen and PR 2007 is just heaven) 2006 - Capital Regiment! :D 2005 - Phantom Regiment. Someone please find me a HD audio/ video of it! PLEASE.(: 2004 - this year is tough.... Nof my favorite year. But I do remember SCV the most. 2003 - Phantom Regiment (of course) and Magic of Orlando! Yeah. I dont remember much 2001-2002. So I'll stop here Dx Quote
corps8294 Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Pioneer 2011! That show ruled and should have won top 12! Quote
thirdcoast Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Another show IMO that was memorable was the WHITEWATER show in 2011! Just being back in that stadium brought back so many great memories. The pine trees were so big, I could not believe they were still there! Nothing like being with an old friend agian. Quote
