Malaguena Salerosa Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 In my opinion, hands down, 2013 Carolina Crown's "The Abyss." With or without the narration. 1 Quote

Malaguena Salerosa Posted December 14, 2013 Author Posted December 14, 2013 Any corps, of all time. Quote
zachariaswmb Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 That's tough, but I have to put in for '93 Regiment. Fire of Eternal Glory. Also '06, with the Biebl Ave Maria. '05 Cadets is definitely right up there with Dancer in the Dark, as well. Don't get me wrong, Crown ballad was nice and all, but I wouldn't put it in the running for best of all time. 3 Quote
DrumManTx Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 I've always thought Vanguard's 02 ballad from Copland's Symphony for Organ and Orchestra is pretty freakin underrated. Maybe not the best of all time, but it's one of my favorites. Best? 06 Phantom is hard to beat for me personally. Quote

caliswift Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Does BD's when a man loves a woman constitute a ballad? That's one the greatest moments I've ever seen. Phantom's 94 rendition of Nessun Dorma was one of the reasons I marched. Quote

I can't seem to get into anything prior to 1984. It's just so, structured and robotic. Quote
HockeyDad Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 (edited) How are we defining "ballad"? Any slow song? I never would have considered Danny Boy or Auld Lang Syne ballads. That opens up tons of drum corps music. My Funny Valentine, God Bless The Child, Autumn Leaves, Send In The Clowns, Elsa's Procession, Make Our Garden Grow. In addition to the ones cited by zachariaswmb above. All of which I would think of before Crown's 2013 offering, fine as it was. Edited December 15, 2013 by HockeyDad 1 Quote
