  1. I’d feel better if Toonces wasn’t driving.

  2. Eldest daughter (orthopedic nurse- practitioner) volunteers several days a week with County health dep't giving the injections. It is quite the setup - there are 2 people checking in patients, 2 giving injections, 1 keeping logistics straight, 1-2 running around helping where needed. & 3 EMTs in case someone has bad reaction (none so far when she has been there). BUT, since thread this is supposed to be about Varsity bringing Drum Corps into its Evil Empire, maybe Varsity could set up vaccination stations at their Atlanta cheerleading event.

  3. If that were the case, we would have no vaccines and no economy right now. Much of our C-19 response is centralized. But when the people in charge of the relevant federal agencies are idiots, the result does not look "coordinated" at all. This is why I say "careful what you wish for". Take masks as an example. You want more of this "coordination"? Masks are bad. Masks are good, but you cannot have them. Wear only cheap/homemade masks, leave the good ones for healthcare workers. You MUST wear a mask when not social distancing. Never mind that I do not wear a mask. YOU have to. On second thought, mandating masks is not a good idea. On third thought, we need mask mandates. Wear two masks, one on top of another. The more masks, the better.

  4. I recently read that Covid 19 most likely will be endemic. Meaning like the flu we may have to take a vaccine every year. Unfortunately Covid 19 is more contagious than your average flu especially these new strains. Masks are probably hear to stay for maybe as long as possible. I've visited Asia a few time in the 2000's and a lot of people back then wore masks because of SARS. That's probably why this thing has not hit them as hard as here. They know what to do and it's always their way of thinking.

  6. Building on that, the question that comes to mind is this. Why in the world of webcasting would we want everyone (corps or fans) to travel to one location for a three-day event? Seriously. Given the choice of Indianapolis-only vs. adding several other regionally distributed sites, what are the points in favor of putting all eggs in the Indy basket?

  7. Medical schools here have had their students pulled in to assist. The daughter of a friend of mine is working in the emergency ward at a local hospital now. There are not enough accolades to give to these people.

  8. Have heard the not enough people giving injections also. The way medical staff has been hit and stretched thin it’s no surprise. Makes me wonder when I see pharmacy chains saying they will give vaccinations. Where do they get enough help and how do they make sure no one jumps the line

  9. I have always been enamored with my aunt who is from Maine & her pronunciation of "Pecan Pie". We say "pee-CON' pie but she says "pee-CAN" pie. There's also the issue of unsweet vs. sweet tea & "coke" vs "soda". Those became an issue as she lived most of her adult live in the Southern states.

  10. Hotels are certainly an option, but what will cost be? Financials are as important as logistics. How much are members going to be willing to shell out for a trip to Indy for 3 days, plus whatever camp/spring training time there is before? And what about feeding the members? Will hotels let the Corps set up the food truck in the parking lot? That might not go over too well with the local dining establishments (who could probably use the business). I just don't see how this works without further straining, perhaps past the breaking point, meager Corps finances.

  11. One thing that I've been wondering, isn't it true that the virus mutated right after it started to spread? I remember seeing reports about how testing could reveal the origin of the virus and it was determined that the main source of infections in New York was Europe. Then again, maybe I'm just drowning in science from the past year and I'm mixing things up.

  13. i would do just about anything to see live drum corps this summer, and who wins or loses is way down on my wish list of things to see. i live with a teacher in a district where schools keep getting shut down, and she can't get a vaccine. I live with a 3rd grader who is in school 4 days a week, and her teachers cant get a vaccine. if i absolutely have to meet a client in one of my banks, I have to get 3 levels of permission to go. then if i even sniffle after i am there i am required to get tested. i have seen some of banks get closed because they were exposed to a customer that refused to mask up and later tested positive. letting my 3rd grader seeing grandparents requires masks....as they are in their 70's and keep getting dicked around getting vaccinated. So while i really, really miss live drum corps, and at this point would be grateful for Flo and all of their issues.....on the scale of important things, drum corps having live events is not on my top 2,000,000,000,000 item priority list. Hell we haven't even met our neighbors newborn yet because we want to be safe. if i were a kid yeah i'd be going nuts too. But Christ almighty...one outbreak in a corps.....they're ####ed, and so is drum corps.
