  1. I'm not sure controlling the sound from the restroom would be a positive. We have to face the fact that in the age of wireless technology, monitoring non-member control of what happens on the field is virtually impossible. Remote control sound board, remote control props, remote control lights, etc.
  2. Thirty years ago when I started using electronics with my band I used a student as a mixer. They were stationed in the pit, but directed by me sitting in the stands by a wireless headset. The same could be done today. Better yet, why can’t someone sitting in the stands wirelessly control the sound board? If you are saying the sound board operator has to be a member, how do you enforce those situations?
  3. I was there that night. Side 2 about 15 rows up. It was right in front of me.
  4. And I wish we would separate in regards to the visual presentation what is individually physically challenging and ensemble physically challenging. The latter component is what many believe what is missing.
  5. What is meant by "staging"? IMO it's all staging, just some corps are better at it than others. What I see in today's design is how you get to that staged point. For example, if the trumpets are needed at a specific place on the field do they use traditional drill and march or use the current trend of having them walk/run? Perhaps I am showing my age, but the first option would seem to me to show more design skill and should be rewarded as such.
  6. Athletes want to win, artists want to effect.
  7. But far more than the 1860's............
  8. "The article states that Oregon High School checked the credentials of the man who has been fired." I didn't read this anywhere. What I read was "Mr. Henzie Skogen is not and has not ever been employed by Oregon School District, so we would not be the organization to conduct an investigation".
  9. When did the Oregon HS Band morph into the independent Shadow Drum and Bugle Corps? On the Shadow Marching Arts webpage it states "For 43 years, the Oregon High School Summer Marching Band (Oregon, WI) took the field each summer, competing in every season since MACBDA's inception" It appears the first year for the MACBDA championships was 1972, making 43 years later as 2015. While some bands that compete in the MSCBDA are not affiliated with a school, it appears the Oregon High School Summer Marching Band was part of the school district. It also states " In 2016, our flagship program became Shadow Drum and Bugle Corps, and was accepted into the vaunted ranks of Marching Music's Major League, Drum Corps International" While the district has stated he was never an employee of the district, it appears he did work for the summer marching band.
  10. They may have beat the Blackhawks in a category, but the Blackhawks were USTA national champions in both 1976 and 1977.
  11. I started in the Kay-Dettes in 1966 and then went to the Jr. Conquistadors when they were formed. Then I went to the Sr. Conquistadors and when they folded, went to the Blackhawks in 1972. The baton corps from Carrollton, MD was the Carroll-tones. The corps with brass players were call musical corps, not to be confused with the drum and baton corps, which had no wind players. In 1974 when nationals was in San Francisco, the Blackhawks competed against the BD baton corps. I remember their brass using bugles and we were under the impression the brass and drums were from BDB. The Blackhawks won, but the drumline was beat by the BD baton corps. In 1975 I went to the May camp of the Kilties, with a former member of the Blackhawks. Their drumline was full and they handed me a flag. After doing flag for the weekend, I decided that wasn't for me and rejoined the Blackhawks. This was my last year in the Blackhawks and I filled a tympani spot in Marion in late summer 1976. In 1979 I joined the Cavaliers for my age out year
  12. You could also say the Keystone Regiment are still around, as they were part of a merger that is currently the Crossmen.
  13. How big were they? I know when Mandarins were A-60/Div 3 they placed as high as 20th.
  14. I don't disagree the number of cases is under reported. I would suspect the number of deaths is also under reported, but not to the same degree. So what I am hearing is if you suspect you have COVID your chances of survival are 6 to 15 times greater if you do not get diagnosed?
  15. To find the percentage of people that die from COVID after having contracted COVID, you would divide the number of COVID cases by the number of COVID fatalities, correct? Currently the CDC lists the total number of COVID cases as 3,630,587 and the total COVID fatalities as 138,782. Are you saying these numbers are not correct?
  16. The problem is most members are not from a corps home base and some sort of over night facility will be reqiured regardless. Now it may be a corps has more resources in their home base area and securing a facility may be easier, but there will still need to be a facility.
  17. I think Iowa, Mississippi, Virginia, and Louisiana are additional state systems that have cancelled so far. I heard PA cancelled, but can not find it anywhere.
  18. Very strange wording. Are we waiting for another shoe to drop?
  19. So you are saying they are lying and under reporting the number of cases? I suspect there are more cases than have been diagnosed, but the data speaks for itself. You say its not that bad, do you have proof?
  20. That doesn't really match up with the data on their website. It states if you get COVID 19 the fatality rate is about 4%. 135,991 deaths divided by 3,416,428 cases. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-updates/cases-in-us.html
