  1. Phantoms East of Eden- goosebump city also Elsas BK English Folk Song Suite (I know its been done before) but a great drumcorps tune, he Scottish drummers That freaking ubelievable Cadets drill Cavies- all of it. Crown - We Will We Will ROCK You AND DANG IF THEY DIDN'T Madison I liked them,I really really liked them. Foe me, that in itself is amazing. SHOWS WERE MORE ENTERTAINING OVERALL FROM TOP TO BOTTOM. OK DCI, YOU GOT THE MESSAGE NOW KEEP IT UP.
  2. Haven't been to a show all year, so last night at the movies was my one and only viewing for 2009. Some things I think I think: Not really surprised at Devils victory, but was floored by the spread. I "like" the show- don't love it. My over all feeling was that they were beatable- but after that score maybe not. Carolina's HORNLINE was worth the price of admission. Show is kind of strange but if I saw it more it might grow on me. The green was a little hard on the eyes. Cadets are excellent, but where's the cutting edge innovation we have come to expect from them? (AND I DON"T MEAN NARRATION!) I think that is what's missing. Enjoyable though. Outstanding guard. Cavies have a well put together show. Drill was gorgeous, (as always). For me, Santa Clara was the surprise of the night. Gorgeous. Didn't expect that. Phantom was missing something. The half violin (red) that was really a rifle was kind of cool, but they should have had all of the rifle line spinning them. Not red ones, but white ones. Enjoyed the Blue Stars. As an old time fan I am pulling for the Troopers. Can't say the Colts aren't deserving of that last spot as well.
  3. ONE THAT MADE ME LAUGH WAS THE MISPRONOUNCIATION OF SIN-E-ADD O'CONNOR. BUT THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY...
  4. Anybody know what the Japanese characters formed in the Cavies drill translates to? We had a fun time coming up with possibilites.
  5. They blew me away. Great post. Everyone in the place felt it..
  6. Top to bottom I've always been partial to 1988. Not for any one show particularly, but as a group of 12 that would be it. I have liked other individual shows better, but the top 12 that year was particularly enjoyable. 1. Madison Scouts (1st place-97.10) Left Bank from Concerto for Guitar and Jazz Orchestra Malague±a 2. Santa Clara Vanguard (2nd place-96.90) Phantom of the Opera 3. Blue Devils (3rd place-96.30) Happy Days are Here Again Old Black Magic Goodbye Yesterday Since I Fell for You 4. Garfield Cadets (4th place-96.10) Copland Symphony No. 3 5. Cavaliers (5th place-95.10) Firebird Suite 6. Phantom Regiment (6th place-93.50) Romeo and Juliet 7. Star of Indiana (7th place-92.80) Porgy and Bess 8. Velvet Knights (8th place-90.60) Magical Mystery Tour Zorba the Greek Malague±a African Medley Back to the U.S.A. 9. Spirit of Atlanta (9th place-89.30) Petrouchka 10. Suncoast Sound (10th place-89.10) Symphonic Dances for the Contemporary Child 11. Bluecoats (11th place-86.70) Old Black Magic Take Five Autumn Leaves 12. Sky Ryders (12th place-85.10) The Sound of Music
  7. Loved that Cavie move where they had the 4 (or 5) half circles on the diagonal... very nifty
  8. Best new unis in my opinion goes to Spirit. Worst- (on the field) the Scouts (too dark- a lot of the detail was lost from the audience perspective.) Liked the Colts too.
  9. Never seen them xcept what I saw on the broadcast, but from what I can see they need some visual (GUARD) maturity. You're playing with the big boys folks. Hornline was great though.
  10. Love Crown- don't think they will win though. More likely the Cavies, Cadets or Devils, in that order.
  11. Haven't seen the Devils, but from what I have seen Cadets show is a killer...
  12. I've gone to the theater only once and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I figured either the sound would be lousy or it would blast you out of the theater. It was great- drum corps up close and personal with a few hundred of your closest friends and a cup holder to boot. Next best thing to being there... :)
  13. I really liked it. Its like a big party with a few hundred of your closest friends. And the sound was great. If you cant be there its the way to go.
  14. Saw it last night. Cant say I love the narration or even LIKE it, but that is one fine drum corps if you can get past all the other crap. (needs some fine tuning- like cutting at least half of the narration- its like who cares anyway?)
  15. This topic is old news but humor me- I havent been on here for a while. Gosh, there are so many its hard to pick. A couple of my personal faves are Spartacus, and New World in 1989. I was already drawn in- but these just blew me away...
  16. If I never see "West Side Story" again, I wouldnt miss it. Unless of course someone comes up with a complete NEW take on it. I think I've seen every interpretation possible.
  17. You have to go back a few years, but the year Clovis West brought the house down with Sabre Dance 1991, (I beileve) was one of the most memorable performances I can remember. There have been more cutting edge and cleaner shows before and since, but that one had me up screaming (and laughing). They won the bronze that year. Fun, fun, fun!
  18. Gosh, wish I could've been there! Great Job. They were revin' up for it last week in Allentown, and from what I saw on Thurday night in the theater they were HOT. Its good when people get what they deserve...
  19. .... and wouldn't that have been interesting???? :) Good for you, Academy.
  20. Basically its one big promotional video for DCI, if you want to see the shows buy the dvds. I'm not faulting DCI for that. It's not aimed at existing Drum Corps fans- it's to promote it to the masses.
  21. I'm not a drummer and don't pretend to know anything about it, but they were way down there in percussion. That could definitly pull them down. And has been killing them all year from what I heard.
  22. I thought it was a blast. Much better than I expected- sound was good, and drum corps on the big screen is cool. Like watching finals at a private party with a few hundred of your closest friends. I liked the camera shots for the most part. Crank up the volume and its the next best thing to being there. Air conditioned, comfortable seats and a cup holder what more can you ask?
  23. Didn't offend me any. Don't particularly care for the amps, but it was fine. At least it was easy to figure it out with the "radio thing".
  24. Wow, that was a long time ago. But yeah, you're right- all those Troopers DM's back then. Also always liked Marcia Hansen's (Phantom) style. And in DCA, George Parks, no question.
