  1. It was sent by Marie, the CFO, not George Hopkins...who knows if he wrote it or not.
  2. There is nothing about it on the YEA homepage either.
  3. This topic came up before, and I think the music in the new movie was basically "insert generic action movie score here." Not that it shouldn't or couldn't be done, but I wasn't really impressed with it. In fact I don't remember anything particularly memorable. However, that is just my opinion and a lot of other people seem pretty enthused with the music.
  4. Scratch that; you actually HAVE to catch them all.
  5. The first step would be to catch them. That would be the real test. It would be best if you could catch them all, but you might be able to get by with only most of them. After that, you would need to train them in order to understand the power that is inside.
  6. So wait, what was wrong with that Cavies shirt?
  7. I think a big aspect is that there are few straight lines on the jacket. The old uniform had the straight vertical row of buttons and the symmetrical "pockets" and symmetrical bottom of the jacket, and the shoulder "wings." The new uniform...all the vertical lines are broken into sweeping asymmetrical curves. Also I don't think they fit any better than the old ones; the pants maybe, but the jackets seem just as baggy. My reaction to the new uniforms in practice is about the same as it was with the first picture: "Uh...oh...well...hmm."
  8. The more fancy newer ones (and this includes the comparable Yamaha ClickStation) can be programmed for tempo changes, meter changes, mixed meter, etc
  9. Yea, but you'd have to sift through a million blog posts to find the few entries that MIGHT have the answers you are looking for, and George is too busy to ask himself. -There is no spoken voice; there is some synthesized sound effects in the introduction of the show and some synth piano in Cool. It's tasteful. -Complicated question...obviously they are redoing West Side Story but it's not a re-do of the 1984 and 1994 shows. Since the show is "Celebration and Conflict" the music focuses mainly on those aggressive, conflict-y tunes from WSS (Prologue and Rumble, A Boy Like That/I Have a Love, Cool and Tonight). In terms of "updating" the material for today's audience...I'm not sure exactly what that means, but the show is definitely arranged, not just straight arrangements of the pieces, but you always know it's WSS. I think "Tonight" is the closest to the original of all the arrangements. In overall style I'd say the show is in many ways like 1994 but again, the show is trying to do WSS in 2009, not re-doing the 1994 and 1984 shows. -Cream and gold is a go.
  10. There are some upper lead trumpet moments in "Cool"...
  11. I just spent some time around Holy Name so I can probably answer some questions you might have about this year's corps. Overall, I'd say that if you like -West Side Story -The aggressive approach to marching and playing that they had in 2007 -The drill at the end of 2008 ...which I think most people did...you are going to like this show.
  12. Yea but where have people been using the Dr. Beat in actual performances?
  13. It's pretty necessary, especially on the move and especially at this point of the year
  14. What do you mean, strikes? It's not like he just slipped this into the rule book yesterday; it was voted on during the 2008 rules congress. I don't think I've seen any evidence of any corps using this yet. But if/when they do, it'll probably be a not that big of a deal despite much over-the-top wailing on DCP. Like Bb horns, amplification....
  15. Hey Dr. Beat, speaking of the annoying truth...did you happen to read the response to this thread from, oh I dunno, the CEO of YEA! and director of The Cadets that addressed that theory? Also I believe the Holy Name Cadets left the church and became Garfield Cadets in 1958 because the church couldn't afford to sponsor them anymore (and still do, you know, church stuff) and the one year uniform change was because the church still owned the uniforms.
  16. Going for a more general up/down prediction: UP (more than a spot): Cadets, Crown, Troopers, Blue Stars DOWN: Phantom, SCV, Boston
  17. I feel like green in the front "panels" of the Crown uniform would ruin that gorgeous, classy uniform.
  18. People definitely did AIM chatrooms last year
  19. Are they marching 17 contras, or is the show written for 18 and there's a hole? or 16 with an alternate? It just seems strange to have an odd number.
  20. For the record, I think the corps is honored to be called Holy Name, or Garfield, or Cadets of Bergen County, or The Cadets, or CBC...
  21. Ah, you are so very clever, I bow down to you. But seriously, if you could hear their hornline...
  22. The buttons, the stock FJM band uniform assymetrical cut, the cheap silver lame and the odd-looking gauntlets.
