  1. LOL, because obviously you stop doing basics once you get on tour.
  2. I believe Tony the Fireman is on nearly every drum corps' brass staff :)
  3. Is the difference in teaching philosophy/quality, quality of show, and the operations of the tour worth leaving the friends/family you've made in your years with the other team? I don't mention competition because at almost any level you'll be competing with someone. I suspect that being in first place is slightly overrated in the long run.
  4. I do not think this is allowed after a certain date, unless the corps you originally signed a contract explicitly allows you (i.e. in writing to the corps you want to join). If you flat out quit, good luck with that.
  5. But then how do you explain GE scores moving up night after night?
  6. How much rehearsal did Crown actually miss? My understanding was they cut rehearsal short on Monday and skipped a show. They've had a large handful of people sick, but everyone else just sat around and didn't get better since their last show on Thursday? My advice to you is to wait for the judges on this panel to get a second read of Crown against the Cadets. Maybe they'll fix their numbers if they weren't right last night.
  7. Again, judges aren't ########. They can figure out what's a hole and what is bad space. Holes in the form do not necessarily make the form unreadable.
  8. Can't be true, Carolina Crown is the only drum corps on the road with sick and injured players. In the history of drum corps. You are all absurd for making a fuss about Crown's holes. Judges aren't ########, they can see what's a hole and what's poor spacing, and I'd like to think an ensemble judge wouldn't spend the entire night staring at a hole rather than evaluating the ensemble that is there. Maybe DCI should start reporting how many members take the field at each show along with the recap, since it's apparently so relevant to the score.
  9. Relax. For six of the eight judges last night, it was their first read of Crown.
  10. I believe it was 2.0 for delaying the show at quarters (the whole hashmarks thing), but they repealed it the next day.
  11. I am extremely interested in how you would support this statement
  12. Except that they just beat the Cadets in drums at their last show.
  13. Likely an error. Wasn't the Cadets penalty in 2007 supposed to be the max penalty a corps could get short of disqualification?
  14. Interesting to note that the panel was nearly exactly the same as last night, except for GE Music and apparently no brass judge. GE Vis - No change Field Vis - Cadets close gap from 0.6 to 0.4 Ensemble Vis - Cadets overtake Crown! Guard - Cadets widen gap from 0.1 to 0.3 Ensemble Music - Cadets close gap from 0.5 to 0.2 Percussion - Crown overtakes Cadets! Everyone also got about a 1.0 boost from last night, too.
  15. This. Plus there are at least a couple shows on the tour where teams before intermission go on last and the ones always after the intermission go on before. Pretty cool when you get to check out some of the hornlines that have been checking you out.
  16. In Madison in 2006, there was a house on campus that made a sign on Saturday night that said "DRUMMERS GO HOME!"
  17. It doesn't matter to some, but it definitely matters to others. I know people who have taken years off and would not have come back, or gone to a different team, if we hadn't made a leap in placement and score.
  18. I just watched a bootleg from Outube-yay and heard this too! Good find!
  19. I just got in and read the score. CAROLINA CROWN IS THE ####### TRUTH PEOPLE! BELEIVE IT, UNDENIABLE!
  20. I don't see how the circumstances of someone leaving a position are relevant in a job posting...
  21. Okay, Jim Rome is an a-hole, we all agree. Chill out. But it'd be easy to take a jab at a study that concluded that band is on the same level as major athletics because kids said they were "frequently tired".
  22. I haven't seen it, if anyone can link to an ESPN.com clip or YouTube, that'd be great, since I have no idea when they replay Jim Rome on the West coast. Has anyone been paralyzed doing drum corps? Not that I know of. Hell, has anyone died doing drum corps? Not that I know of. Have these things happened to football players? YES. Drum corps is painful, sure, but you are very disillusioned if you think they are on the same level. Jim Rome compared drum corps to cheerleading just to be an ### (but he's not all that off-base if you look at competitive cheerleading), but I'd compare drum corps more with dance or theater than with a sport. Everyone who's upset by this really needs to take a step back. It's just drum corps!
  23. Says the one sitting on his butt reading DCP this summer.
